I haven't seen too many custom Savage 99's, and even fewer that I've liked. But this one is quite nice:

24" barrel with hooded full-band front sight and 1 silver-lined folding leaf

sight. Figured English walnut stock with horn forend tip, Supergrade swivel

bases, classic point-pattern checkering and with checkered sidepanels and

teardrops, engraved steel pistol grip cap, beaded pancake cheekpiece,

vacant silver oval and checkered steel trapdoor buttplate containing

receiver peep sight (interchangeable with scope mounts). 14" pull. Lyman

Alaskan scope on G&H single-lever quick-detachable mount, custom fitted

to top of receiver. Fully engraved and signed by Josef Fugger: moose

scene on left, deer on right surrounded with acanthus scroll. Jeweled bolt.

Weight: 9lbs, 11oz. Action built 1927. 99%+blue. 99% lever casehardening

colors. Excellent bore. Full length leather trunk case. $12,450.

Sweet gun, I'd say the wood was done by Griffin and Howe as well.

Probably came from the factory as a model G with the case to match, these days the cases are worth more than the rifle.
 
What caliber is it? .300 or .250 I'd hazard.

While it's not quite to my taste with the fore-end tip & heavy engraving on the receiver, I'd be proud as heck to own it.

It looks like someone ultimate gun, which he was then too scared to shoot...

Joe, do you have any of these that have been layed into with an engraver? This might be your perfect opportunity. :) Good luck hiding the fact that 12g's went missing from your bank account though, your wife might figure this one out! :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
 
Actually, believe it or not I've found a Winchester model 1876 in 45-75 that I'm thinking of picking up and turning over for a profit.

I feel shame. :oops:
 
Who is this Merz guy? I've been to his sight to drool once in awhile, that very bottom one looks like what I'd like to do with my 38-55 since it's alrady bubba'd to the max. It looks like they milled off a fair amount of steel from the sides the the frame, leaving only a step at teh back to blend in with the stock, I guess that's one way to get below the gouges from a rough first life. 8)

Is it hard to find those Lyman double flip down leaf sights? I'd like to get one of them too.
 
Not sure if they've been engraved afterwards but they sure look factory, since they're not 1895's I'd guess that Ulrich wasn't the engraver.

Leroy Merz is just another collector who has some really nice items! :wink:
