I know where you live, we've met many times. I just blend in really well with the surroundings....;):D

Nickel plated are nice for hunting...Load,unload,load,unload...They stay nice
even if rain goes down the pipe...But for reloading, after 3-4 times fired they
crack in the neck...I always use them for hunting but not for precision shooting at the range.
Nice NP 30/06 Dan...;)
Brass shipped Eagleye...:D

:sniper:

i believe Winchester makes them. Win Ballistic Silvertip. check the box before ordering, i knwo they come in .223. Your box code for .308 is SBST308A FOR 168 GRAINERS OR SBST308 FOR 150 GR. There is a special 150 yr collectors series in colt 45, 405 win and 30-30. They are all nickel plated brass cases.

I saw some brass ... that was well ... nickel or silver colored ... is it nickel? where can I get some in .308 new?

i would avoid the expense and PITA factor unless you have some special purpose for them, ie a load that is ONLY to be used in a certain gun, like how i was used norma brass for light 7mm rolling block loads.

i had some, and after loading them twice i pitched the empties in the garbage rather than deal with them any more. they are very hard to resize with my lee press, and if you aren't loading boat tails in them, you may even have to bell the neck out so they don't shave the jacket of the bullet. and yes, i did chamfer the case mouth.

not worth the bother IMHO.

Wow how crappy is this ... as I've ordered 100 pieces of it to try. I was going to use it for a certain load and rifle ... now I'm wondering if it's worth the bother? :(

I have never seen nickel flake off RECENTLY manufactured brass. In fact, I have accidentally left nickel plated pistol brass in a tumbler for the better part of a week and it WORE off, but never FLAKED off.

Could someone show me an example of recent manufacture nickel brass that has flaked?

In building a load for my .243, the best I could do was using once fired Win Supreme brass (nickel-plated). I've tried to duplicate the accuracy (a 95 gr Ballistic Silvertip handload) with R-P, Win, Hornady and Norma brass. Using exactly the same components, techniques, trim and OAL length, the nickel stuff is hands down the most accurate and my RCBS case prep station chamfer tool is all I use. I also deburred all the flash-holes. RCBS dies, partial sized only to fit.

Well, now that you already have it coming, try it out and form your own opinion. :) My guess is you will discover it's not as bad as some would have you believe.....;)

Don't worry about it, report back when you load up your fancy new ammo.

Yeah my friend "catworks" on the board uses nickel plated brass with no problems ... and I'm learning from him how to re-load ... I'll report back when I receive the brass and do up some loads ... ;)
