Nickel Norc 1911, should I buy?

Okay, sorry, I have to chime in here, just because it is my solemn duty to try to protect my brothers and sisters from disappointment.

I had a 1911A1 from Norincrap, and it was essentially useless as anything other than a paperweight. One of the factory magazines launched it's "welded" floor plate off the bottom of the mag tube the first time I loaded it. Each time I stripped and assembled it, more metal would chip off the hole in the frame that the take down pin went through. It would reliably fire two out of three rounds, then stop, with ball ammo, and CMC mags. It would not feed semi-wadcutters at all, and JHP's were slightly less reliable than ball. It was accurate enough, if you could see those itty-bitty non-replaceable sights, but frustrating to operate in "bang, bang, tap, rack" mode ALL of the time. My pistol got wet, once (funny, it occasionally rains here in Vancouver). By the time I got to cleaning it three hours later, there was surface rust all over the firing pin and firing pin tunnel. I would regularly draw blood when seating mags home, as the finishing on the mag well was so poor - I did take a file to it eventually. I became so disappointed with the thing that I literally gave it to my wife as her first pistol. She sold it, and bought an XD.

A good friend of mine has a Norc 1911 as well - He used it for IPSC, until out of competition for medical reasons. His works great! Of course, he did buy his for $425, and then spend $700 replacing EVERYTHING inside of the frame and slide.

I realize that my experiences with Norc are about 4 years in the past, and yes, I suppose Chinese tech may have improved, BUT...

I would STRONGLY suggest that there are far better quality 1911s out there, for not much more money. We all have a budget (mortgage, 2 car payments, and trying to save some dough for incoming children here - That's why I reload ammo!), and I have no more money to spare on guns than you. Please, for your sake: Don't buy Norinco!!

Good luck with whatever you get,

Neal

You are kidding...Nork 1911 is forged, like a hammer. And they improved quality a lot:

Norino Does make A nickel plated 1911 A1 ( NP30N ) enhanced capacity .45 ACP. I bought one from Marstar a while ago and it again is available for the premium price (for a Norinco)of $449.00. The pistol has been a flawless performer no FTL,no FTF,no FTE issues in 500 rounds of FMJ factory ammo.It is smoothly finished inside and out.The one problem is the small size of its 3 dot sights.I did add a full length recoil guide as an upgrade.

could you please show us some pictures? :cool:

The decoration is a raised top rib -checkered sighting rail that came with the pistol. Supposed to cut down glare and help the sight line picture.

The only way you should consider a nickeled 1911 is if you are going to put faux ivory grips on it.... :p

Actually, I was thinking of faux mother of pearl.

Really. I'm not a macho man. I like a pretty gun.

It doesn't have to be all tacticool or all wood and blue to do it for me, although I'm ok with those too.

I ordered it, this afternoon.

NELLY;
Nice to see smebody out there with all the facts, all the technical data etc.... Very positive indeed.

If you purchased a car and got a lemon, would you stop buying from that fir ?

BTW; why din't ou simply return it to the dealer for a refund or replacement ?
John

HITZY;
"I think Chinese nickle plating would leave alot to be desired....."

Come on now, is this based on your personal examination and evaluation or simply your expert opinion ??
John

1851 NAVY;
"I don't know anything about Marstar's new model" seems to say it all.
May I suggest you inform yourself BEFORE making such declarations ??

Because the dealer would not stand behind it.

I do not have the metalurgical strength of the parts, nor the exact dimensions.

I HAVE been shooting handgun for two decades, and have NEVER had as much trouble as I have had with Norinco products.

I was just trying to ensure that someone realizes that the little chinese guns are not perfect, and I am getting really, really tired of this cult of personality that seems attached to them, when someone criticizes an ACTUAL, PERSONAL experience with them.

I also said that things may have improved since I owned one of the pieces of garbage.

I'm not sure why this always has to become a personal attack on those of us who HAVE HAD negative Norinco experiences, and are trying to HELP fellow shooters avoid the same thing?

I guess in the future, I'll just not bother.

You go have yourself a nice day now.

It's always possible that you'll get a lemon. Witness Greentips recent problem with his S&W MP pistol.

TBS I bought my NP-29 from Marstar (thanks John), it has worked flawlwssly but if it hadn't I have every confidence that Marstr would have made it right.

So buy your guns (and everything else) from vendors who will stand behind their products.

My 2 cents on Norc 1911's

I have a new series Norc 1911A1 compact [commander] bought NIB. Works great and feeds/fires Fiocchi 230 gr JHP's particularly well. I added the adjustable trigger & new grips myself. Otherwise she's all stock.

I have a Norc NP-29, 1911A1, 9mm that is a tad modified.... new hammer, beavertail, ambi safety, adjustable trigger. Bought used off the EE here. Works great.

Then there's the "Norc-in-Stein".... Norc 1911A1 frame and most internals. USGI slide, SA barrel, Wilson combat sites, Pach grips....

I gotta say, in general, I'm happy with the Norc 1911's I've owned. Also, previously owned a first series Norc compact [commander], it was okay, too. Yeah, I had Colt grips on it.... :redface:

So, I'd probably buy another Norc 1911, in the future, too.
