Nickel plate Revolver

Nickel plated surfaces will peel off after a while.

That was not the experience I had my my nickle finished M-29. This gun was 25 years old, when I got it, and had seen lots of hard use. The nickle finish although dulled somewhat, held up quite well, despite the fact that the gun spent it's life in a leather holster. There also seemed to be less wear on the bolt stops than would of been the case of a blued gun with a similar history. What I particularly liked about the nickel finish is that there is less friction between the moving parts, and the result was a very nice feel in the way the piece locked up. Conversely, I had a #5 Lee Enfield nickle plated to stand up to the salt air. The gunsmith plated the sear which ruined the trigger as you could no longer feel the difference between the take up and release of the two-stage trigger.
