I'm thinking about doing this to a Model 700 action. Has anyone done this, and does anyone in Canada specialize in this type of work? Specifically with firearms. Thanks.
Nickel plating isn't the best firearm finish. It's 19th Century technology. It'll give you a lot of glare on a hunting rifle too. Not that game would care much. Doing it to a Rem 700 may drop its value too.
In any case, it used to be that you could take a firearm to any metal finishing shop. Not any more though. Any business handling firearms has to have a Firearms Business Licence and the employees handling them need a PAL. Go talk to a local gun smith about any finishing work.
You will better off having it done in hard chrome. RK Gunsmithing. Do a search on CGN and you should be able to find his phone #. Whatever, Sunray is right about the value of your gun.
I have seen an action electroless nickel plated. It was a nice satin finish. I have been trying to find someone that does this in Calgary with no luck.
From what I understand the final finish is dictated by how it is prepped.

I know of 2 places in Calgary that will do it. Let me see if I can find the info tonight. I had looked into electroless nickel plating in Calgary earlier last year.
I emailed and called both places and neither had an issue.
I said I would strip the gun down and just bring the parts in I wanted done.
All I wanted done was the action and bolt shroud.
I have had pieces nickel plated in Calgary in the past. It's a good finish in satin. Since the last one I had done was about 17 years ago, I don't remember who it was (might have been Moore's) Regards, Bill.
