Hey,was curious about buffing out the finish on my 870,anybody out there done this before, your knowledge would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jesse :kickInTheNuts:

I've done it, I have a pro buffing machine (no, not a dinky bench grinder with a single buffing wheel), a real baldor, and it was still alot more work than I thought it was going to be. The bluing hides alot of scratches and machine tool marks, and you'll need to start with 400 grit wet sandpaper. Count on 25 hours minimum for mirror finish if you have proper equipment and don't make the noobie mistake of going up the grits too fast and having to go back and start over.

You want to buff the nickel off an 870 MM?:(

Are you talking about polishing it to shinyness?

I can see wanting to cover the shiny nickel for hunting with camo tape or a paint job, but buffing a nickel plated shotgun? #### just sell it to me and buy a regular 870.

What is your goal?

the OP wants to strip it down to a shiny chrome like finish, ive been searching for one for a while, there was a member on here that had a shiny winchester 1200 for sale but it was too much for me at the time

Nickel plating is very different from an "in the white" finish, which is just polished bare steel. An unblued gun will be much more prone to rusting.

If you want a shiny gun, send it to a gunsmith who can do plating.

I have a CHROME PLATED 870, it was a project started LONG TIME AGO, it is a 12 in barrel, the cap, barrel and mag tube are chrome plated ( from a shop that usually plate ONLY harley part's ) so it look like Harley pipe lolll...
The receiver is still on STEEL as i was to cerakoat it. to have a Black and Chrome
If some are interested, i'am OK to let it go as i will never have the time to finish it and already have 3 other 870 ANYWAY.... but you only get the ACTION, BARREL, and TUBE, i don't have anything else PM me for info, do not ask anything HERE as i don't whant to geopardise this post...

I'll try to put pic tonight...

why stop at buffing it to a mirror shine?

I'm looking for the same thing. I was going to try to have a gunsmith chop an 870 MM, I just want a shiny, shorty, threaded for RemChokes, but I'm gonna talk to my favourite smith before I do anything. They can usually give you a ballpark figure on anything you want to do, chances are--they've probably done it before.
