Nicks on the brass - carbine gas system

Sorry for the cell phone pic. You can see there are small nicks in the brass kust below the 1/2 mark. I think this can be solved with a heavy buffer? My AR has a carbine gas system. I have a standard buffer installed. I'm thinking a heavier buffer will slow things down a bit and take care of the brass nicks? Just looking for confirmation or opinions from the gurus.

Are you near Edmonton? If so and we can line up a day at the range I have a Spikes heavy buffer you can try before spending the money and waiting for it to show up.

Those look like dents from being ejected and bouncing off the upper on its way out. I dunno how another buffer would solve that.

Those are perfectly usable for reloading btw.

The interwebs mentioned the heavy buffer would slow things down and perhaps get rid of the dents. Just wondering what CGN thought, as there are some very knowledgeable AR people here.
 
Looks like possible over gassing. Is your brass ejecting around 1-2 o'clock from your position? A heavier buffer might help, maybe a H2 or H3 buffer? Find a buddy who has one you can borrow to verify?

There must be a range between you and cr5 that maybe you can get together at...it'd be worth trying the heavier buffer like people have said to know if it works or not before spending the money. If nothing else you'll get a good range day in with a fellow CGN'er
 
My Swiss Arms (sold) used to make way bigger dents and I reloaded those.
What barrel are you running? If it's S&J you're probably over-gassed. I had a 16 inch S&J and it was way over-gassed.
How far is it throwing the brass?
What type of ammo are you running?
A heavier buffer or an adjustable gas block would probably fix it up.

How Southern Alberta? Calgary or further? I go to Calgary regularly.
 
It's Spikes 1:7 twist. I'm using the Federal 55 grain FMJ. At home here I can't recall exactly how far the brass goes...I don't think it really that far though. I parted the rifle together. The lower followed by the upper. The upper came complete...so not built by me. I added the standard buffer when one came up on the EE. When looking at the Spikes website I see their carbines come with the ST-T2 Buffer as part of the package. I should perhaps take that as clue.
 
A heavier buffer can't hurt, but don't get caught in the ejection pattern nonsense, if it cycles and ejects reliably, it's fine, don't overthink it.
