Whats the deal with long range shooting at night, do any of you do it? I have a fancy scope with a luminated reticle I have never turned on.

well illuminated reticle is kinda for lower light not night, but i would think shooting at night would be frowned upon lol like masturbating on an airplane lol

There was one time in North Carolina Benchrest that shoot at night. They set up the powerful lights near the targets at 1000 yards.

They had a great time but a little disappointed. They couldn't see the bullets blazing (red glow - you saw in army, shooting with 50 BMG).

As for luminated reticle - some people are having hard time seeing the reticle in sunrise/sunset. (Black reticle against dark background).

I was planing on setting up a light by the targets and shooting around 700 yards. Is legal to shoot at night you just can't hunt correct?

I've used orage Tar-dots and a maglight right beside the target. The target is super visible through the scope, and the bullets don't care if its dark out. The muzzle flash from bigger calibers will leave you blinking between shots, but you can at least check your zero when you arrive at camp late and want to go hunting in the morning.

Much of the world hunts at night legally. Not all of it is for big game but plenty of it is.

Most ranges are required to cease shooting one hour after sunset, and not start again until one hour before sunrise, usually written the same as the hunting regulations. If you are using an approved range, just check their rules. If you are outside of an approved range, then most times the natural resources act (or whatever it is called in your province) restricts the possession of firearms outside of these hours except when they are cased. You would no doubt be violating numerous laws by night shooting except at a range that is approved for such activities. Check with your local authorities.
