Night Vision Chat Thread - Ask Us Anything

Do you have a retail store where I can see and compare different thermal products?

We don't have a physical storefront as most of our sales are national/international. However, we are able to accommodate for in-person demos in downtown Toronto. Please email us to schedule a no-obligation consultation.
Infiray Canada will also be at Rampart Range Day on May 30th this year and we will be helping out.
We will also be exhibiting at Airsoft Community Expo in Picton on April 1, and finally Taccom September 8,9 and 10 this year.

Do you accept non-dominant side limbs as payment?
We only collect left testicles

Can you see yourselves carrying sionyx digital stuff down the road? Thinking opsinnor next generation of opsin...

Never say never but current gen digital night vision, including Opsin, isn't really there yet in terms of performance. Can you walk around and see some stuff in the dark with it? Yes. Is there lag and does the image noise become unmanageable in truly dark scenarios? Also yes, which precludes it from being used in any sort of serious application. Both analog and digital night vision continues to see improvements in technology so digital might catch up to analog in a few years...

Just curious here, my initial question is Why?
Given that it's not legal to shoot between dusk and dawn here, why would I want a nvd?
Other than something cool to admire, what use is it to me?
Maybe I am missing something, I know next to nothing about nvd's, if so, please enlighten me.

It is illegal to HUNT at night. Federally, there is no law against target shooting at night, so it comes down to provincial and then municipal bylaws.
That's just on the hobbyist side of things.
A large segment of our customer base is actually active MIL/LE, SAR, PI, etc.
You can also use it for general navigation for hunting, hiking, etc. Think about it this way - all of the things you can't do at night because it's "too dark", is now possible with NV.

Always great to see your level of engagement here. Really appreciate it. With Shot Show behind us, are there any new high-value (see: affordable) options that have hit the market? There are a ton of folk interested in NVGs, but the $3-5k range is often seen as hurdle for many. Always interested to hear what's in the hopper.

OK, it's actually unlawful to discharge a firearm 1/2 hour after sunset till 1/2 hour before sunrise in Alberta, regardless of the reason why. This was why I puzzled over the need for night vision on my firearms.
Although I can understand the military/law enforcement requirement.

Do you have infra red devices?
And would they work in daylight?
Say to detect a rabbit hiding under some brush?

We get this a lot and to be completely honest with you, there are cheaper options than what we offer that will let you see some things in the dark, including but not limited to, Call of Duty goggles, Amazon specials, Gen1 and non-autogated Gen2 systems from Russia or China with fake spec sheets, very little after-sale support, non-existent warranty, etc.
You will hear this often with night vision, but cheap night vision isn't good and good night vision isn't cheap, like many things. Cheap night vision will get your beak wet but you'll be stuck with a significant monetary loss when you try to sell it to upgrade, and be further behind the curve towards a high-end system.
We've looked through hundreds of night vision systems from Gen1 all the way to Gen3 unfilmed systems and as true end-users ourselves we've always tried to put out what we believe to be the absolute best value for other end-users. There's nothing worse for us than trying to sell cheap night vision to people, only for them to realize that they've been sold the short-end of the stick, and lose a customer for life.

You often see a lot of cheaper night vision systems like Sionyx, older Gen1, Gen2 systems, etc. being offloaded on facebook or even here on CGN. Why? Because people bought cheap and are moving on. We don't find many of our products on the secondary market because our users use them day-in, day-out, for years. For us, the LOWEST level of performance that we're willing to accept has to pass the bar of : "what night vision would I want to use that will be helpful in at least 80% of situations?"

Like I said, it goes down to provincial level. It is legal to discharge firearms after dark at approved ranges in Alberta afaik.
Yes we use IR lights and lasers that are only visible under night vision. They do not "work" under daylight because the natural amount of sunlight greatly overpowers these lights (why would you use a flashlight during the day?)
Are you referring to thermal devices? Those work 24/7 and detect heat.

I think the one "cool" option that might have come out of SHOT is the new Holosun night vision red dot but it looks like an IR camera that requires a built-in IR illuminator so the element of stealth is completely eliminated. Target MSRP I heard was a little over $1200 USD.

They also have a thermal version so no IR light needed.
