Night Vision Scope Longevity

I have heard conflicting accounts on how long night vision scopes last. Some say they have a limited total hours of use, while others say they degrade without use, so buying one and letting it sit long periods between use is as bad as using it all the time. Any experience out there on this matter?

I've heard they decay with use if stored properly. Perhaps it depends on what generation?

I guess there are not too many NV users in Canada, I guess I will wait till a need one for a lot of use!

or you could check out some U.S forums, i bet there is a ton of NV users downthere
