Between the two, which better pick for Car-15,not going to add anyother gadgets(holosights etc).Looking at SPr illuminated Leupold model

I had a MK4 with the SPR illuminated reticle. While it is a terrific scope, and the 5x is nice, I wasn't a fan of the 1.5x magnification.

I prefer no magnification at the lowest setting to allow for better cqb applications. And the 4x of the NF is more than enough for typical AR-15 distances(unless you're using it as just a precision gun).

Got rid of my MK4, and will be getting a couple Nightforce 1-4. If I could afford it, I'd go with the Short Dot. But I'm just a poor government employee. :p

Which reticle would you recommend for theNightforce 1-4?Where to buy? Approx price? Thanks.

PM peterdobson, he owns hirsch precision, about 1100$ excellent scope, just bought mine from him i can't say enough about it, and peter is an incredibly good guy to deal with, also sells lapua brass and good hunting bullets etc... or you can call peter at 902-829-2932 I highly recommend peter for everything that he sells.

I was looking for a low magnification scope to put on my Type 97 when it gets here. Seeing as I couldn't justify the $700 to $1100 price tag of the big boys stuff and it didn't make sense on a $800 rifle, I opted for the Falcon Menace 1.5-5x 30mm SIR. If it's too big for the Type 97 maybe I'll put it on an AR-15.

I'm also just a poor government employee :D

I bought the Menace 1.5-5x30 for my AR. It was physically too large for my carbine, IMO, and it had to be mounted quite far forward to get the right eye relief (I like to run nose-to-charging handle).

It seemed like a great scope, especially for the price, but I sold it as I didn't have another rifle it was suitable for.:(
