Nightforce 12x42-56mm

i have use Zeiss Victory Diavari my hole life and i know night force are great scopes , but a 42 power scope is hard to imagine being very clear or bright enough at the times when you need it.

anyone have one or use one on max power, that can comment . i no people use them every day to win matches but what about lower light conditions.

have just sold my Zeiss Victory Diavari 6-24x56, and was going to buy the 72mm model , but i would like to have the extra power .

let me know your thoughts

I've used the Benchrest version. Out to 300 meters (farthest shot so far) on a white target I can clearly see target lines and bullet holes, even in low light conditions (overcast and twilight). Clarity is great but contrast and vibrancy is somewhat low. It doesn't have that pop of looking thru real great optics.

For the price of the benchrest I don't know if there is anything better for the range. As soon as you step off the range there are way better choices out there.

the 12-42 nightforce is the paradigm of long range F-Class shooting. ALL scopes are difficult to use at highest magnification under the wrong conditions. Shooting at 1000 yards out in open sunshine is almost impossible due to mirage regardless of whether you are using a 25X or a 42X scope.

I own these scopes and I love them. One of the things NF has/does better than any other manufacturer is produce reticles specifically for ultra-precision shooting.

The other bonus is the size of their objective lens. Bright scopes are important NOT for shooting on dark days, but for shooing on BRIGHT days. Trying to stare into a dark hole in a bright sunny day is damned difficult. Not a problem with this most excellent scope.

Ian, cheques in the mail! For longrange they dominate and are probably the most reliable scopes available. Other than that, they have a great dealer network and warranty service, althought the latter is rarely required.

very good point, i have never thought of it that way before, i may just have to pick one up and try it out for a while, cant hurt much.

I can easily see bullet holes in white poster paper at 400-500 yards with mine as long as there isn't too much mirage. Awesome scope but I've never used anything that might be considered "better". I have used it for ranging practice in the evening and it doesn't seem any worse then my other scopes (mostly Burris).
