nightforce alternative???

Rick, fair comment. We love NF, as they have very few returns, unlike IOR, which are in no way comarable to S&B, NF, sighton, Vortex or Leupold as regards quality control. IOR have nice glass, but break far too often and their service sucks! Fact!

A review does not examine warranty issues, but my files are open to anyone that wishes to review them.

Back to Sightron, I'll send one for review if we get them, if you want. If there are warranty issues, we will drop them as we did IOR.

Regards,

Peter

The Sightron folks we met at SHOT seemed real nice and looking over their line very closely, their optics seems to be not too bad at all.
I too am looking for a lower end line than NF as not everyone has NF $$ to spend.
I mentioned to the Sightron folks that to have turrets and reticles in the same unit of calibration would only serve to increase their acceptance, sales and credibility. Maybe if we all ganged up on them they would see the light??
They told me that warranty issues while low were typically dealt with quickly.
I guess we will see:)

i have nothing pertinent to add except that i handled a nightforce for the first time yesterday, and i have to say, it is one gorgeous scope:adult:

very clear glass for the second or two i peeked thru it before handing it carefully back to it's owner:)

btw, it was a 5.5 -22 x 50(i think) or maybe a 56mm.

another btw, has anyone else noticed that if you try to go to nightforce by typing nightforce.com instead of nightforceoptics.com it brings up avon's website, funky:confused:

Hi Peter,
Does IOR have warr service depot in the US, or did you send it over sea?
Their newer Tac scopes look very nice and glass is very clear. But what wrong with their QC??? I am surprised they 're still in business.

mightyhunter, we were spending too much time on warranty. The scopes have to be returned to Romania. When we bought from the US, they simply replaced faulty ones, but won't do this anymore.

Another example is when we gave a new scope to Wade Onefrychuck, who was pissed at waiting over six months.

The shooting community is small and we were selling far too many scopes with various problems: dirt inside tube, faulty focus, collapsed inverter rings, just by memory. We sell literally more than 10 times Nightfoce over IOR and have less than 1/10 the returns for NF to IOR!

We still have some, going cheap.

Regards,

Peter

.........

My two main complaints concern the side paralax adjustment and the focus.

............

Adjusting the focus is a real pain in the ass. You have to back off the lock ring and than try to adjust the focus well holding the scope with two hands in order to stop from changing the magnification at the same time. All this well trying to look through the scope at the same time to find what works best for your eye. That is if you can even find what works best!! I have yet to find a spot were the focus is actually correct. But yet i have no problems finding a correct spot with any of my other scopes. I have herd of a few other people also having the problem that they run out of adjustment before then can find a spot that works. Does anyone else have this problem with there night force??

..............

I own one of the first Nightforce scopes brought into Canada.
The scope is a 5.5-22X56 and yes it has the same problem you are describing. Get the parallax right and the scope is somewhat out of focus.
I called Nightforce and they offered to repair the problem...No charge.

I think its been almost ten years and I never did send that scope back.
With todays laws that could be tough!
I bought a few more and couldn't be happier.
None of my new Nightforce scopes have that issue.

I have owned S&B scopes..... Lets just say that didn't go well.
Excellent optics, but overall poor value for the dollar spent (over Nightforce).

For the money Nightforce gets my vote.
