I finally had a chance to mount and zero my nice shiny new Nightforce NX8, 1-8x24 MOA. Overall I'm very happy with this scope, happier in fact than my old NXS 2.5-10x24, which was quite the scope.

The reticle is ridiculously bright if you need it to be, and is essentially like an EoTech reticle when lit up and used on 1x. When at 8x, the reticle is perhaps a bit big for my liking, and wouldn't be the best for precise shots; however for 3 gun, hunting, or just general run and gun, it is awesome! The windage and elevation adjustments are crisp and tactile, and the eye relief generous. While this is a 1-8x scope, I think where it really shines is the 3-6x range; and 4x is where I found myself naturally running it most. This could be because I am very used to a 4x ACOG, though. There were a few things that I found less than ideal, though. One was that at 1x, there seemed to be a bit of fisheye effect going on. Nothing crazy, but it seemed to be noticeable on the periphery; though maybe that is normal in scopes with such a wide range. Some folks may not like the .5 MOA wind/elev adjustments, but for the uses it is meant for, that is certainly precise enough.

All in all, this scope is going to serve myself and many others running .223 modern sporting rifles well, due to its compact and versatile nature. Whether I need 1-4x for 3 gun, or 8x for reaching out and shooting rabbits, this one can do it all. It really is in my mind one of the better scopes for a semi 223.

Anyways, forgive the somewhat scatter brained approach to this 'review', and enjoy a picture.

Damnit, this makes me even more impatient. I've been waiting 2 months now for my MIL NX8.

Glad it's panning out to be as good as they claimed it would be.

Thanks for the review, been trying to decide between this and the razor gen 2E and it is a tough choice. Also looking into the 1-8 ATACR but it’s a lot of cheese.

Great to hear you like it been waiting on my 1-8 ATACR SINCE December & shooting it at Shot Show hasn’t much improved my patience...

Ooo the ATACR would be so nice! That glass! Hopefully it gets to you soon!

I wasn't actually planning on buying this scope, but Prophet River just posted it for sale one evening and I said "self, you should buy that." Always listen to the voices in your head, they say.

That rifle is making me want to quit waiting for the other receiver sets and just buy a modern varminter! Really nice setup man

I really, really love my Modern Varmint. They are a great rifle. Reliable, accurate, and durable. I've got an SLR receiver set coming, but I'm thinking I may just build it and sell it, and keep this one instead.

I’d like to see your rifle to see what they look like and feel like close up. I live in southern mb too

Well, seeding is about to start, so I won't really be doing much 'organized shooting' in the near future. Maybe once that has died down we could meet up for a shoot. I live about 2-2.5 hours west of you.

I am definitely considering one of these for my B&T APC223-SA. I love its size and has a quality of a true 1x with some reach if needed. Thank you guys for letting me know about the "sweet spot" at 3-4x. :) Ill have to save up now. Anyone have suggestion for scope mounts? Im leaning towards QD mounts from Midwest Industries. Thoughts?

Nice :)

Looks like a smaller package than my Accupower :)

Trijicon = 25 OZ, 10.8" long

Nightforce = 17 OZ, 8.75" long

Thats pretty substantial differences is it not? Im sure the glass, tracking, durability, functionality is damn near the same. What is the difference, just the half moa clicks? Just bought an Accupower before these got announced. Both nice scopes. Bagged some yotes this year for sure. Nice setup you have there! Now I need one, thanks....

I just got one of these a couple of weeks ago. These are incredible optics. I was shocked at the small overall size of it. I had been running a Leupold VX6 Multigun 1-6x with the cmr2 reticle. It was an all around excellent scope with very good glass minus a few things that bugged me enough to get rid of it. The reticle was basically a Horseshoe with 1/4moa dot and BDC too 800m. It would be an excellent reticle if it would be daylight bright, I would occasionally lose the fine centre dot on a dark target during the day. Overall the illumination was useless during daytime shooting. Also the illumination controls were down right dumb where all you had was a power button and you had to cycle through the 5 settings without being able to adjust down without cycling all the way through again. The eye box was bigger on the leupold though.
I have had a chance to shoot about 500rds on 2 different setups over the past week or 2 and this optic is about as perfect as you can get a LPVO in my opinion for the money, granted its not cheap. The brightness is crazy and is as close to true 1x as I have seen. The glass is incredible and noticeably better than the fixed magnification Elcan Specter 0S4X I have and the leupold. I have heard the ATACR has even better glass and a larger eye box vs the NX8 but it was just too much money for me. If I were to split hairs I would say the centre dot of the Reticle is a touch big @ 8x and the eye box is smallish. Some windage hold offs on the Subtensions like the ATACR would be perfect(Mine has the FC-MIL reticle). I have seen the new Accupower 1-8x and in my opinion this blows it out of the water.
