Nightforce NX8

I’ve been thinking of a vortex razor jdm 1-8. The glass is apparently top tier. Wonder how the nx8 stacks up against the razor

I would be interested to see that as well. I have played around a bit with the HD Gen II and in my opinion the glass between the two are close but the NX8 has far less fish eye and a more "true" 1x with better colour. The eye box is huge on the Gen II though and it is tough to beat for the price. Is the Razor JDM First Focal Plane as well like the NX8? I really prefer FFP over SFP now that I have had time behind both. I would think that the NX8 would be significantly lighter and smaller though.

The jdm is second focal plain. I cannot stand fish eye effect. It causes me to immediately write the optic off on my list. That means the vortex razor is off the list haha. The atacr is way too much money for such a tiny optic.

i wouldn’t mind having the nx8 on my cz 527 carbine 223. Except I ain’t putting an expensive scope in cheap rings that will leave scope ring marks. The nx8 looks more ideal becisse if it’s size. 34mm is huge

Agreed, If you want too you could come to the range with me and check it out if you are considering one. I put it into a Larue SPR 1.5 mount. The AR its sitting is a beast of a rig now.

Dude I didn’t realize your from morden hahahahaha yeah if I can make some time finding a baby sitter since I’m a single stay at home dad. I’d like to check it out for sure and see how i like it

Hahahaha No worries man. just PM sometime when your free and we can figure something out. I try to make it to the range a minimum of 2x a week.

Want one of these for my slr.

I would highly recommend it. I'm pretty sure this will be riding atop my Modern Varmint next summer for 3 gun, and for sure over winter for varminting.

I think we really need to set up a Manitoba Gun Nutz black rifle day.

I’d like a black rifle. Still don’t own one. Your right tho. We need a southern Manitoba black rifle shoot. Or heck any kind of rifle shoot. There is nothing going on out here with firearms that I’m aware of

Still not 100% sure the nx8 will replace the elcan specter on this rifle, but it'll definitely have a place in my inventory for good.

My only qualm is the red dot, because of the nature of the reticle at 1x it looks broken up. Not an issue but took me a bit to get used to.
Also, if you're shooting into the sun on 8x, the entire reticle can glare up and flash you. You don't loose clarity of your target but it took me by surprise. Next time I'm out I'll try and grab some photo examples of it.

That is a nice rifle, what make is the lower? The Geissele handguard are quite nice. I also have an Elcan Specter but mine is the OS4X fixed version. Both are top shelf optics. I debated getting an ACOG when I got the NX8 a few weeks back but I plan on building a .308 eventually and thought it would be nice to have an optic I could move back and forth between 5.56 and .308. In my opinion the glass is better on the NX8. It seems with LPVO's the reticle brightness is an issue, almost everyone I have tried and seen have either useless daylight illlumination or it is right on the cusp of being visible (minus a few like the HD Gen II). The 1-8x Accupower did have a reticle that was just barely visible during the day, same with the VCOG. From what I Have noticed and read its more of a problem on First Focal Plane optics, not sure if that is true or not.

Started life as a noveske rifle.
For me, I'll never run a fixed power optic like an ACOG again. Had a TA something a few years ago but I hated the fixed 4's. It felt like more of a hindrance than anything.
With the NX8, reticle brightness is a non issue, it really is day time bright, comparable to my aimpoints. I can shoot into the sun and still see the illuminated reticle.

The original NXS 1-4 that I had prior to the nx8 had a useless level of illumination. Barely viseable even in dim environments.

My issue was more or less the composition of the "dot" at 1x. Unlike my Aimpoints which have a very distinct dot, the dot appears broken up but as I said that's the nature of the reticle. I'll try and get some pics this evening to explain further. That being said, its such a minor issue I won't fault the optic for it. It shoots just as good as any other.

The glare however, I'm not sure how I feel about it and have never experienced it on any other optic. When the sun hits the black surfaces of the reticle, it does some funky #### and turns the reticle into a bright silvery color. Again, I'll try and get some pics so you guys know what the hell my poorly worded self is trying to explain.

I really like that rifle, I bet it shoots like a dream.
I can see the advantage to having a LPVO vs a fixed like the Elcan I have or an ACOG especially for the price of them. I personally like both optics quite a bit. If you apply the Binden Aiming Concept and shoot with both eyes open with the Elcan you can get pretty quick close up. Personally I would rather have an LPVO if it is FFP with a really good reticle that is daylight bright. One nice thing about the Battle Optics I mentioned is they are super tough though.

I considered an NXS 1-4 but read the brightness sucked so I did not get it. I ended up getting the Leupold vx6 1-6x but made the mistake of assuming that the CMR2 reticle would be daylight bright since the Firedot one I tried was. Ended up getting rid of it even though it had decent glass and a huge eye box.

I have gone outside and tried to replicate what you are explaining and cannot. Have you considered contacting NF and seeing if this is something they may be able to remedy or something that they have seen before? They are excellent to deal with from what I have been told.
