In my quest to finish my 338fed build im looking at optic choices. I was pretty well set with the shv 3-10x42 illuminated hunter reticle as itll be used for close to mid range bear and moose hunting. Just thought id see if there was a comparable model to look at first. I love my shv 4-14x56 ill moar but its just too much scope for this build. Rifle will ride in an mdt lss gen2 chassis
Bonus points if one can be found in stealth or urban grey color. If not itll e cerokoted with the rest of the parts

tagging along for this thread..... I have a similar build in the same caliber and also very undecided about what optic to dress the rifle with.

No complaints with my v4, good glass and it tracks well. I don't hear many people complain about their SHVs, don't think you can go wrong with one.
the Vortex Razor LHT is one hunting scope that has my attention. Lightweight, locking turrets, good glass, I like their illuminated reticle choices, and the few reviews I've seen claim that it tracks well. Seems to be alot of scope for ~$1400. the Leupold vx5hd is another good scope in the same price range, plenty of people here seem to like them.

I have not look through a SHV but I have own NXS and ATACR.

However to my eyes the Sightron S3 is as sharp and bright if not better than a NXS that being said the ATACR is a different animal but again it's 3 times a Sightron cost.

Have you look through a Sightron S3 or at least S tac?

It about the same price point as a SHV.

No one near me has a sightron i can look thru unfortunately. I refuse to own another vortex. Im still casually shopping as i wont be going bear hunting this fall so im in no real rush

I have had one Vortex before but sold it after first range trip.

I also had a Bushnell Elite tactical 34mm tube I am very surprised about its clarity and brightness adjustment is positive and repeatable.

It's a great scope but I wouldn't buy it at regular price (can't swallow $2k on a Bushnell) but bought it on sale plus rebate (can't remember exactly how much but think just little over 1k after discount and rebate).

I have a leupold vx5hd and it has great glass for it's price point. Sharper than my S3 sightron. I'd be pretty keen to try a Zeiss V4 or Swarovski in that $1500 price range.

I have a vortex viper 4-16x44 and while it's a well built scope physically, I find the glass quality to be subpar to others in it's own price range.

I really liked the swarvoski z3 line but i want something a lil tougher for a big game hunting rig. I often backpack hunt for a week or 2 at a time. I need that extra bit of confidence and durability.
I will put Swarovski scopes on my rimfires and coyote guns that i use in my home area

vortex razor hd lht 3-15x50 20.5 ozs $1499 and vortex razor hd lht 3-15x42 19.1 oz $1399, these are second focal plane scopes with an illuminated center dot, same as SHV second focal plane scopes

I have a Vortex LHT and it has better glass than my leupold VX3i LRP, mark 4, and vx patrol. The tracking is absolutely on point, locking turret caps, comes in mils and moa. Illuminated reticle is standard. Price point is excellent. It is my go to hunting optic now ever since losing the crosshair of a FFP scope on a black bear during low light shooting conditions with my LRP. However if OP is looking for something in the 10x power range then maybe something else would be more suitable. If you have an opportunity to go look at a LHT do it. You will be floored by the clarity.
