Nighthawk Custom GRP Review

Great review, I am trying to decide between this model or an Ed Brown Special forces. You mentioned that this is a high maintenance gun could you elaborate on that?

The 1911 is high maintenance because you'll shoot 100 rounds and you won't even know it within a span of an hour or less. Not to mention it's not as easy to clean compared to say.... a bolt action rifle or even an AR.

It takes about half an hour to an hour for a 1911 to be well cleaned. It takes maybe 15 minutes to clean an AR-15. Not to mention re-assembling the 1911 is not as easy (for me anyhow) than an AR-15 or an SKS for that matter.

I have taken apart the Nighthawk because a friend showed me how to properly disassemble and reassemble it back, it's easy to take apart but a little tricky to reassemble. I haven't cleaned it yet, not until I reach 500 rounds.

Welcome to the club Buds, Here's my Vickers/Nighthawk and my EDC.

Bringing this older thread back to life as I'm currently in the market for a high-end custom 1911 (Wilson Combat, Nighthawk Custom, Ed Brown, Les Baer) and hoping the OP can provide some updated feedback now that he's had the pistol for some time now.

Guys @ Wanstalls: If a used one comes by the store I'll be sure to be in touch!

She still runs fine, no major problems whatsoever after these very few years. The only problem I have found is that the GRP doesn't like reloads or factory reloads. Factory rounds however make match grade bullet holes or tennis ball sized groupings at 15 yards. I had a few failure to ejects but like I said, I gotta burn through my factory reloads first. I remembered very clearly that factory rounds were flawless. The finish is VERY tough and scratch resistant. I would highly recommend a GRP that had a bottom rail just for accessories in the future. The trigger is still excellent, no parts wear yet. I think I'm at around 1000+ rounds. I still can't believe I got this for roughly $3300 taxes included and the value of these suckers have gone up!

I've got two Nighthawks bought from Wanstalls; A Demascus Talon and a stainless Talon II Bobtail. They are absolutely beautiful, crisp, excellent shooting guns. They both group better than any other 1911 I've shot. Yes as the OP said my NH's also do not like any reloaded ammo I have put in them. They love factory rounds though and I've never had a problem at all with any factory round ever. When I ordered the 4.25" barreled Bobtail I thought that it might not shoot as tight of groups as the 5" barreled Talon but I was very wrong. They are pretty much identical with how tight of groups they shoot.
Looking at getting a 3rd one to add to the collection. The Predator III looks very sweet.

Appreciate the input.

I've found a second hand GRP Recon and I'm waiting to get some additional picture of the barrel rifling to get a better idea of the round count that's been through it so far. I'm not overly concerned, but still, there would be a difference in pricing for a 2k round count and 15k round count.

I'm curious to hear as to what is not working with either reloaded ammo or commercial reloaded ammo? Which type of failure are you guys getting? Or is it poor accuracy? Which type of bullets?
