Nightstand Pistol Safe Illumination

To be honest I don't actually use it. my wife saw it and figured I would love it but as far as I know it would be illegal to keep the pistol with a loaded mag so what's the point. I have a kid on the way so I figure I might use it to store my edc knives eventually.

Someone can correct me, but I believe its perfectly legal to keep a mag with the pistol. I don't keep ammo anywhere near my guns, but that's me, not the government. (I have kids in the house still.)
Worse case scenario the mag would have to be in a different compartment of the same safe.

Store it however you want, if you end up having to interact with the police they'll just charge you with 50 shades of bs.

Just keep the magazine loosely pushed in but not clicked in place. I wouldn't consider that loaded, as you would have to click it in to be able to rack a round. SHTF click, rack, good to go.

You would be wrong

Same place as the gun good to go, in the magwell/touching (depending on whos reading the law) the gun no go.

I keep a pistol and a loaded mag in several hotel safes in the house.

The bedroom one has a dollar store light above it so I can see the key pad at night. The light is on the bottom of the shelf above the safe, and in front of it so it illuminates the keypad and the inside, when the door is open.

Legally you can keep a loaded mag in the safe with your pistol as long as it's not in the gun... only takes 1/2 a second to slam it in and rack it anyway, BUT... correct me if I'm wrong but owning a firearm for "self defense" is not a valid reason in Canada..lol

Close. Owning a firearm for self defense legal. To acquire restricted or prohibited firearms for defence is almost always going to be denied by the CFO. Once you have acquired one for target shooting/competition, or collection.... well we all have the right to self defence. It would cost you $$,$$$ to $$$,$$$ but at least you and your family are alive. Reminds me I must pick up that firearm legal defence insurance.

Where does one buy Hotel safes?

Ebay. A company that installed them in university dormitories sold off a bunch because they were not big enough to hold 15" laptops. I bought a couple dozen and sold the surplus ones on EE for $100.

These are made of quite heavy steel and have substantial doors and locks. I re-programmed the emergency back up combination so a bad guy could not get in with it.

The red light is good for your night vision... But once you'll turn your pistol light on...your eyes gonna need to adjust. Nice idea for the red-light-in-the-box (better than a white one) but i still prefer using my red flashlight offhand in the case of total darkness scenario. The pistol mounted light is a good blinding weapon if you know how to use it. I wonder if a red mounted light pistol would be good?

I have a 650nm (red) filter for my pistol light that I can slap on. Looks pretty cool.
