hey guys....
since i got my Weatherby Vanguard Varmint special in .223, ive really been wanting something in .308.... When i was young, and in the Canadian Reserve Forces, I did alot of shooting with the FN-FAL in .308, and just loved it! I like the range, and versatility of the round, and since i do alot of coyote hunting, i wanted something that would go a bit further than the .223....
So, i go the local gun shop, and the guy there has nothing in .308, but a used, but like brand new Mossberg night train II in .308, he was asking 715.00, so i asked him if he'd trade up for my 10/22 Marauder, and after a bit, he went for it....
Jeez, I dont know, now i got this thing, with that ridiculous barska 60mm scope, and muzzle brake. I got two boxes of winchester 150 gn. ammo with it, and went out last night to sight it in. After i got home, the first thing i did was change the scope rings to some good ones, then off to the range.
i sighted it in for 100 yards, and im glad to say that it actually grouped fairly well, it shot about an inch group. The scope is garbage. Im gonna keep it on there till i get a different one, and im leaning towards a Leatherwood M-1200 ART scope. Im looking at taking it apart today, and seeing what, if anything can be done with free floating the barrel in that horrid plastic stock, and seeing if it will do any better. I'm not sure what the hell to do with the muzzle brake? i'd like to ge trid of it, but then i got those threads on the end... any idea's?
maybe put the whole works up in EE, and see if i can find a decent heavy barrel ruger m77 .308, or a howa 1500.... or anything else. LOL.... at least it seems to shoot ok. I think ill take it out this afternoon and see what it'll do at 500-600 yards!
ginnz!
