Do you really need to range a reflective target at 4k or can you live with 3k? ONLY reflective target btw. I went with the 3K and stabilization and am mostly satisfied with its performance. Stabilization is a nice feature that really reduce eye strain. Cabelas had the 3k on sale and I grabbed it.
I was assuming that it would not be anywhere near effective at 4k, 2k I would be happy if it was repeatable, and the glass and everything was good. I do see that Leica make a CRF 2400R now, same price as the 4K. Hmmmm
Just wish it included some sort of ballistics computer/calculator that displayed the compensation needed at any given distance. Bushnell does it with a few of their range finders, albeit at a very elevated price point. I guess I'm a bit spoiled because I was able to pick up a Bushnell Fusion range finder bino for a very low sale price and it functioned very will even with pre-determined ballistic profiles. I think Leica has a ballistic programme that allows customizable ballistic profiles. That's definitely something I would look at, but I really wanted stabilization so I went with the 3K.
Leica 2700b, but its expensive. The Leica 2400 is "stripped down", and thats ok as I have Ballistic AE I can use on my phone. I am in need of a new riflescope as well so have to watch my pennies.
How far can you range effectively with the 3K?
I haven't really ranged anything further than 1 mile yet. While the image in the 3K is stabilized, the laser itself is not, I have pretty shaky hand so going past 1 mile I don't get a reliable read unless it's a fairly large object, like a house or barn.
I bought one from Cabelas when they first became available. I had trouble getting it to range 1/4 of the advertised distance. I returned it a few days later. Lots of guys on snipershide had the same experience. Maybe they have fixed them now. I would recommend the Leica 2400.
I have the Leica 2700b, and it's really great. It has no problem ranging my 20" steel at 1500 yards. The 2400 has the same laser, optics, and case, at a much lower price point.
