Just received a Nikon FX 1000 4-16×50 today and upon inspection noticed the matte black finish on the scope housing has grayish blotchy speckles all over it? Tried wiping scope off, however no luck and appear to be part of the finish? Anyone experience this with there Nikon scopes?

When I find blemishes in the body of scopes I often use Flitz or a similar polishing compound and carefully, lightly polish along the length of the scope. Do this lightly with only a little polish and keep the polish out of crevices and certainly away from the glass. I have removed ring marks that seemed impossible to remove otherwise. If there is a dent or scratch to the metal then of course it can't remove this but will minimize the appearance of the scratch. Try to polish the length of the scope in long strokes to minimize shiny areas. Phil.

I bought a Nikon FX1000 Black and had the anti-reflective coating inside the tube flake off and stick to the FFP after I shot the rifle a few times. The black flecks caused by the flaking coating obscured the crosshairs. I thought the store who sold it to me was pushing knockoffs, but maybe it's a Nikon quality control issue. I did get a refund in the end, but it was not a good experience. This was only a few months ago for reference. Where did you get it from?

Ordered from RangeView Sports. They had the clearance sale on so thought I'd give it a try. I've already emailed them and they directed me to the Warranty department at Nikon. It obviously doesn't affect function, however it is an annoyance that I'll have to put in a warranty claim on a newly unboxed product right from the dealer if I want it corrected.

Yikes! I also got my defective scope from Rangeview Sports during their "clearance" (Chinese knockoff) sale. I'd mount it, shoot it, and ensure there are no other issues. I am really not sure about those guys. Personally, I'm never shopping there again after my experience, and I'm local!

They dicked me around until I gave Nikon my receipt and the scope serial number, then all of a sudden they offered me a refund. When I came in they tried to give me another scope... Yeah right! I'd contact Nikon and put pressure on the seller for an answer if you have non-cosmetic issues.

Was this the retailer with the "improperly" advertised mosins a while back or am I mixing them up?
