I am looking to get a scope for my deer/moose gun (.308) and I have pretty much ruled my options down to one of the following:

1. Nikon Monarch 3 2.5-10x 42 BDC
2. Nikon Monarch 5 2-10x 42 Advanced BDC
3. Bushnell Elite 4500 2.5-10x 40 DOA

Anyone have any experience or insight regarding the following:

1. Quality difference between the 3 and 5
2. Personal experience with the monarch
3. Performance of either or in low light
4. Where I can find the monarch 5 in 2-10 magnification
5. Nikon glass quality to bushnell
6. Where I can find subtentions or a calculator for the bushnell DOA reticle

Any feedback would be appreciated
Thanks
Doug

Either should make you happy but I give the edge to Nikon glass. Also Nikon's BDC "spot on" is pretty sweet. Check out Nikon's web sight on that. Nikon Canada also offers a no fault warranty which you will most likely never need. Ya, I'm becoming a bit of a Nikon fan.

I have a Monarch 3 2.5-10x42 and its a great scope at a good price point.
Nice and bright, good image.
I would imagine the Monarch 5 is a little better scope but also pricier.
Check out the Nikon website and I'm sure it will explain the differences between the two.

+1^. I have a dozen or so Monarch 3 scopes in varying magnification ranges. The Monarch 3 has a 4x magnification zoom ratio. The Monarch 5 is 5x (same as Zeiss HD5's)
I have Leup VX 3's, and Zeiss HD 5's as well. You'll be very hardpressed to tell the difference in glass clarity. The edge goes to Zeiss as it is slightly better in low light conditions.
Nikon makes it's own glass for the Monarchs. If your using a 308 you might want to consider the M308. Is shows for use with an AR platform but you can use it for most 308 hunting guns. I have the M223 on my AR and it's great.
Here is the link to Nikon Canada: http://en.nikonsportoptics.ca/nikon-products/scopes/index.page
These guys have Nikon Monarch 5's (they are also a site sponsor and they will treat you right. Plus they have a no tax free shipping sale on at the moment): http://store.prophetriver.com/monarch/
Everyone has there own opinion but personally I prefer Nikon's glass to that of Bushnell.
Nikon also has their "Spot On Ballistic Match Technology" app

I have a few Monarch 3 scopes on hunting rifles and they have been really good in low light, clear glass, and have proven they can take a good drop (fell off the quad at 30kph) without losing zero. I recommended them to others looking for a budget scope with good value. I have since picked up a Swarovski Z5 for my new hunting rifle and it may be hard to step back, the clarity is noticeably better.
