I did some looking for didn’t find any direct info so figured I would ask.

Does anyone have direct experience with the Nikon Monarch 82-ED-S Fieldscope recently ? I know they are a little older in design but as a Nikon camera shooter I can’t imagine the glass would be terrible. I’m looking for a mid range spotter to be used for multiple purposes. Photography, birding, Benchrest shooting and hunting. I don’t do anything at the pro level and I’m not looking for the best of the best. Found a good deal in the Nikon and curious if it’s worth it. I’d be under 1500 all in.

Any other recommendations is this area at this price or less ? I’d prefer to stay away from Vortex as they just aren’t my cup of tea (I do enjoy the podcast crew though.)

Cheers,
B

I purchased a rimfire Nikon scope for a really good deal just before or as they were declaring they would no longer be making gun related optics. The glass is really good and they supposedly have a good warranty. I can't provide any specific info though. Cheers

There is no warranty on Nikon firearm scopes. However they offer a credit to be used toward another Nikon item.

seems Nikon is focusing on birders these days
da dum tiss

Worth it? you'll need to take a look and see if it meets your needs
They are good glass

Nikon pulled out of rifle Scopes a number of years back. They do not support firearms or hunting for political reasons.

For many of us, that's a good reason not to support Nikon as we VOTE WITH OUR DOLLARS everyday.

That being said, I have a really nice Nikon bino, and I'm not going to give it up just because I don't agree with the company's direction. I probably won't be making any 'new' Nikon purchases - that's just my personal view.

The Nikon 82ED spotting scope is a really good value - optically it's really good.

Cons are they are very heavy and the field of view isn't 'great'. ...but a very serviceable scope if you are not carrying it very far.

My .02 anyway ..

There is a warranty, if not they wouldn't be offering you credit.

The issue you're likely trying to point out is that they no longer make rifle scopes, and thus cannot fix/replace a rifle scope if you have an issue. Instead they will give you credit towards the products they do still make.

They do not support firearms or hunting for political reasons.
What is your evidence of this? When I asked Nikon about it when they were leaving the market they basically said it was too competitive of a segment for them to bother with.

I'm not saying its NOT for political reasons, it absolutely could be. I just wanna see evidence before I make judgement.

Thank you, You stated that better than I did.

If I remember correctly that biggest part of the backlash came when the marketed a scope specifically for "dangerous game" in Africa and with many of the anti hunters seeing it as a "Trophy Hunting" destination that didn't go well. Hunting optics was a small market for them so it made sense that it slowly disappeared.
