Nikon Monarch African

A few months ago I was at Epps and they had the Monarch African 1-4x20 (1" tube) in stock as well as a few other Nikon scopes. The little scope was suprisingly nice and clear considering the price point (less than $300 if memory serves). The slightly larger 1.1x4-24 (30mm tube) was noticably nicer, as it should be - it costs about 2.5 to 3 times as much as the 1" tube so it must be better, right?! ;)

I didn't do any comparisons against other scopes when I was there. You'd really have to do a side by side comparision with the Leupold to see how they stack up against each other. However, from my quick inspection, the Nikons would certainly be worth consideration if your in the market for a small, variable power scope.

RE: Nikon Monarch

Hi Flip1;

I have a 2010 one, brand new in the box. I bought it to put it on my Ruger RSI for hunting WT's in the bush. The scope is first class, clear, light and robust.The eye box on it is huge and it has the largest FOV compared to Leupold or any other similar scope. I did a lot of research on ALL affordable low power scopes before I zeroed on this one. I also have a great article on it that I can email to you. As a matter of fact, my Minox binos were recently stolen and I have no binos for this season. I have hence decided to sell both the Ruger RSI (I just posted an ad for it) and the Nikon Monarch. It cost me $350 by the time I got it here and will sell it for the same price/shipped. I am in Calgary and frankly, don't spend a lot of time on this forum. If you are serious, send me a private message with an email so that I can send you pictures/my research/etc..

Sincerely,
