I've been packing my 10x42 Monarchs for near 5 years now. They're great bino's, but this spring I broke the right screw up eye piece. Nikon are replacing them for what seems like a $5 part. Good for me I suppose, BUT!! As the current stock of Monarch III's is "NIL" stock, they have offered me a pair of 10.5 x 45 Monarch "X''s For a $200 upgrade fee. They retail online for just south of $600 cdn.

Has anyone out there had cause to play with the new X model? Are they worth the money or should I just wait and get the MIII's under warranty?

Thanks in advance.

Not me, but related sorta..
I have a pair of the Travelite compact binos, two yrs ago while coyote hunting (-25'ish) I was turning the eye cup and it broke..no problem, I'll just send them back to Nikon for their Super warranty.....Not!! They charged me a total of $86 bucks for parts and shipping. No more Nikon for me, I'll stick to Leupold or Bushnell.
Juts my rant. I realize Nikon make good clear optics but the other makers have a much better warranty..unles things have changed?

Many a thread had me worried I'd be treated similarly. To my surprise I'm getting something new, they just don't have stock. I take it I'm the other extreme??
