What's the difference between the monarch 3 and prostaff 5 line?

Monarch 3 is a one piece build with 95% light transmission. Better coatings and image quality. They are also rated "shockproof" on top of the waterproof and fogproof. Meaning they can take a beating. (Although for the most part even our entry level ProStaff's are designed to get the snot beat out of them.)

Prostaff 5 is the mid tier line, two piece build and around 92% light transmission but that I don't have definitively as I think there is a bit of variance in a couple of them. However they PS5 are deliberately designed with a bit different range than the Monarch's with 3.5-14x and 4.5-18x to offset them a bit.

The BDC reticle is one thing that I don't like about Nikon. I would much rather have regular hash marks instead of those silly circles.

I prefer the circles but that's just a personal thing. I also have a Nightforce NSX with the reticle that includes a series of progressively larger circles that is used for bracketing varmints that works well for me. Phil.
