I'm looking for a new scope for my 17 ackley hornet and I was wondering what people thought about the Nikon Monarch series, specificaly 5x20x44sf. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Nikon's have really nice glass, clear and bright with little or no distortion. I quite like the Monarch line. I particularly like the 6 to 18 by 40 with 1/8" adjustments at also comes with 2 sets of turrets.

i have a japan made nikon . 6.5 to 20 x44 model .i have been told the new models are made in the phillipines .

I have one or two Nikons - the 6-24 50mm with FC, 4-12x 40mm Nikoplex (and a 6-18 40mm not mounted yet) - like them very much - had one guy look through it then get his buddies to look through it cause was so amazed with how bright it is.

The recticle choices may be more limiting than other scopes. I was surprised though how well they worked Nikoplex thin/thick corresponded with drop/distance and Fine Cross hair quite good for long distance (targets small - FC not obscure)

Think Mysticplayer carries them.

I've had quite a few, mostly the older ones and a couple newer ones. Can't beat the clarity, no issues with durability, mechanical, finish, or otherwise. Warranty is often questioned but from personal experience had nothing but good. Can't beat them for the money. Burris may be another option to consider. Hate paying for some 'names'.

I know what you mean, I really don't want to spend $1000+ . That's why I was interested in the monarchs, they seem like good bang for the buck. I would prefer a finer crosshair than the one I saw, but htat was all WS had.
Can anyone give me pros and cons regarding side parallax adjustment vs AO?
Thanks.

I have a Nikon Monarch UCC in 4-12x40. Very clear image, in fact a little bit better than my VX 3 4.5-14x40. Yes mine has "Made in the Phillipines" at the bottom. It has the tendency to move its point of impact about 4 - 6 inches up when travelling long distances to hunt. I cannot hunt with it without checking the zero at the venue.
