One of the worst warranties in the industry. Having submitted claims to Bushnell, Leupold, and now Nikon. Nikon is garbage. I had a pair of old binos which served well (optics are good) but needed some repair. I sent them in and Nikon advised me that it wouldn't be "economical" to fix. Their solution is to try to get me to pay for another set of binos. Nice - 25 year warranty = pay for new binos.

nikon warranty issues

be careful with these guys.

I had a pair of Nikon binocs, brought them home set them on a shelf for a year
went to use them they would not focus properly. sent them in for warranty repair, they would not cover them because they said I had dropped them and damaged them. I told then they had sat on the shelf of the closet and had not moved, they still would not cover any repair.
obviously I have not nor will I ever buy another nikon product.
my 2c

I don't have an issue with paying for repairs but to tell me to pay for a new set of binos is total bs. When I had a broken bushnell 3200 they advised me that I could repair at x cost or replace at a discounted cost. Leupold just replaced/repaired it for the cost of shipping.

Nikon

Good to know, since I am... was thinking about a Nikon Monarch scope!
Sinawalli, Nikon optics are excellent, not to mention the prices.
There will always be problems with any company.
before you make a decision not to buy Nikon optics based on these comments,
email to Nikon head office and find out for yourself.
We do not know all the details involved in these claims.
I have several Nikon scopes, binos and digital camera and I have no problem so far and I am planning to buy the Nikon rf in the next couple of months.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the heads up.
But I will contact their head office and find out for myself. Sometime you have to take it a step farther...the warranty guy most of the time will try to screw you. I had found that out with another co, I will not mention.

I may give Nikon USA a try but I am not interested in sending the binos in direct - It is a waste of postage.

MightyHunter - so what you are saying is that talking to the Warranty Dept isn't enough, I have to complain to the headoffice to have them honor their warranty? You justified my earlier statement that Nikon's warranty is crap. You can keep buying Nikon, I am not going to bother. I like their optics but if a company requires me to call their headoffice to honor a warranty that just tells me they don't value their customers.

Nikon's BS is no different for their camera's, $1500. camera thet went bad out of warranty for a fix that was a problem from day one that they knew about, $300. later to get switch fix that should have been fixed for nothing, Like I told them it is the last Nikon product in this house.

No, What I am saying is that, some companies have idiots in charge and one needs to go over their heads to bring attention to the problem. If there are enough complains, I am sure heads will roll. No company like complains...I don't think Nikon would last this long if they did not have a good reputation.
Do you know how many people Nikon employs??? I don't either.
they need input from their customers just like any other co. to improve their operation.
Only take a few minutes to send an email, and it's free.

I have a fair amount of Nikon gear (film, digital, lenses, scopes...) and also had a very ugly warranty situation.

Came down to providing dealers with (limited) product was higher priority than providing product for warranty replacement. Then I became a public relations problem and for them an exercise in damage control and then had a new replacement lens. Took an absolutely unreasonable amount of effort and time to get it done (just about 6 months).

Since then have had excellent service from different people. Expensive loaner lenses when something in for service, complementary sensor remapping whatever. Think at the time a person was making a decision that simply didnt work well for me but in their opinion worked better for the company.

Have used Nikon gear for decades, one bad issue. Talk to some Canon or Pentax people, see if they're any better. Friends had some serious issues there (and no local depot, shipping charges after shipping charges, after shipping charges)...

The only ones that truly amazed me was Tamron. I broke your lens by playing in a sandstorm, can you fix it? Sure, lets just call it warranty shall we? Well, if you insist... Not have lenses in their line up that interest me at this time though.

Have had good service from Bushnell too http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=283459 but only interest me for .22s

Had a Nikon Monarch that had a pinched tube and some debris inside it. It didn't effect it too badly. Sent it in at my cost, they fixed it up and sent it back on their dime. Two week turn around. That was the Burnaby BC Warranty Depot. I have a few Nikons and think they're great as far as quality and cost.

nikon optics

two pairs of binos mine and sons same model first time out both fogged. talked to nikon they said water damage no fix. High end dig camera of wifes nikon said they only couver there own parts not the ones they outsouce. DONT BUY.

I returned a set of Nickon 800 laser rangefinders due to a fogging problem when I broke a seal and they replaced it no problems at all. Very happy

Glock4ever, shake down nikon to get the binos fixed, sell them, and then don't look back. Thanks for the heads up, I had them on my short list for scope purchases, and won't anymore.
