So I'm shooting about 9" low on my LE and need to find a lower front sight blade. What are the sizes available? I see them on eBay fairly regularly and I know marstar has them listed, I'm currently running a -015 front sight blade. Alternatively if anyone has any spares they would part with please pm me.

Finally finding the time to sight in my dads old lithgow I inherited and de sporterized, love shooting it but would like to get it sighted in properly.

$6 each at Marstar. Who say to specify the height. No mention of what heights they have though. And you want a lower one. Front sights move in the opposite direction.

According to what they say and assuming you are at 100 yards shooting 9" low with either standard commercial ammo (not prvi partisan)

19.5 x 9 / 3600 = .048
-.015 - .048 = -.063

According to the first page the lowest sight is -.030

I would be making sure your rear sight is correct to the rifle and I said not prvi partisan ammo. Why? A buddy tried some in his No1 and it shot really low. It's boat tail not flat bottomed for one. I would try some Remington or Winchester first if you are using PP ammo then compare results.

Thanks Beermaker, I'll have a look over on milsurps.com.

I was shooting federal .303, but have some Prvi and just picked up a box of Winchester as well to compare. Rear sight is original to the rifle, only the nose cap isn't matching numbered as it was sportererd before my dad bought it some 30+ yrs ago. Windage was off as we but I've adjusted it since shooting it last. I'll take it out next trip and run a few of each ammo brands through to compare and see what yardage on the rear sight brings me closer to the poi at 100yrds. Sent an email to marstar already, so we'll see what they have available.

So what distance was the no.1 sighted in at originally? Was just reading on milsurps.com that one style was zeroed at 200yrds. The flip up micrometer style, if I understand the right term I have the battle sights not the flip up style.

All Enfield rifles were adjusted to hit three inches high at 100 yards except the No.4 with the Mk.2 sight and that was six inches high at 100 yards. The manual I donated linked below for sighting in Enfield rifles should give you all the info you need.

REME Precis No. SA/Rifles/3 (Zeroing of No.1, No.3, No.4, No.5 Rifles)

The link below talks about various problems with the No.1 and POI and adjustments.

No 1 MK 3 rebuild, possible bedding issue

Also from the link above check the inner band screw for proper adjustment and fore end bedding, both can effect the POI. Also note the rifle was sighted in (regulated) using military ammunition.

NOTE for all Enfield owners, at the top of this page there is a sticky with a vast wealth of books and manuals on the Enfield rifle and all you have to do is "CLICK" on this link.

Son the Australian at Milsurps.com Enfield forum is very good with the No.1 Enfield rifle especially with bedding and the one to ask questions if you still have problems. Son has a very large collection of Lithgow Enfield rifles and was a wealth of knowledge in every Enfield forum he is in.

ALL of the above mention sights fit in the "P14", "P17" and the #1 Mk III rifles

Prvi and S&B are the way to go for ammo - US loads tend to be "lawsuit safe" for the US market. For some reason folks in US ammo companies never met a pressure spec they wouldn't under cut by 15-20%.

Perfect, thank you very much. I'm going to make sure things are bedded etc properly and if that doesn't change my low shooting situation I'll try and find lower sight blades. Thanks for the help, I'll report back when I get things under control.

If, after all the other potential fixes, you still shoot low and can't find the proper front sight blade, you can also file down the sight blade a few thou at a time until you're right on. Then touch up with some cold blue and voila, Bob's your uncle
