Ok to all the SMLE experts out there:

When I was a kid, my great grampa had this old rifle he'd bring out every July 1 and fire a few rounds. Then he'd carefully clean and oil it and put it away till the next year. I finally recovered the rifle after 35+ years or languishing in my great uncle's basement. In a wooden trunk I found the rifle, strap, web gear, helmet, boots, enlistment/discharge papers, cigarette tin sealed, battle dress, puttees..etc. Looks like everything a soldier would need to go to war. To my uneducated eye, everything looks all original. It could be the one basement that BUBBA never found. There's even a chunk of chocolate there still in its original foil and paper! Reading the diary I found was a thrill. Didn't know GeeGramps was a Vimy Ridge veteran. Only thing missing that I can figure is the bayonet. Any clues where I'd go to find the correct one?

Sorry, I wish I could post pics. Trust me, I'm dying to post some brag photos!

And NO! NONE of it is for sale at any price.

Thanks

Robert

You lucky SOB! You found the treasure chest we all dream of! The EE is a good place to search for the bayonet. Or try your local gun show. Hopefuly you can find one with a date that matches the rifle. GET THEM PICS UP! we all wanna see. Enjoy your great find. Mat

I got a /C\ 1907 pattern bayonet for a No1Mk3 from ebay. They are not that rare. Those things are so long, they could make a child sword.

Sounds like you found a mother lode of Canadian kit.
"...Didn't know GeeGramps was a Vimy Ridge veteran..." Most CEF troopies there in 1917were.
Pattern 1907 bayonets have gotten pricey. Roughly $100 for one in decent condition. Try the gun shows. Look for the Canadian C in the broad arrow. Mind you, there's no reason to assume a CEF troopie would not have a Brit made bayonet. PS Militaria is listing Brit made 1907's at $100.
"...ebay..." Evil, anti-firearm ownership empire that financially supports the people who think you shouldn't be allowed to own any firearm.

You have never seen a Martini Henry carbine bayonet!
P07 blade, 17 inches
MH carbine blade 25.75 inches (sawback)
MH rifle sword bayonet blade 23 inches

Which does make it much more fun to buy gun crap from them.

I got a C /l\ marked bayonet with unit marks for just over 100 shipped.

They are out there, and don't get too hung up on date matching the rifle, as they weren't issued that way. IMO look for condition and the C /l\.

X 2 for the C /|\ (canadian acceptance marking). I didn't think earlier to mention that. As for the Ross- I know there are at least 2 different styles of bayos for the Ross. My Ross Bayo won't fit my buddies Ross rifle. I can't speak for certain on the interchageability of the Ross' and the P07 bayos, but I bet ya the next person to post can:D

Congratulations on your find. We would all very much like to see photos and someone will help walk you through the process. No, an Enfield bayonet won't fit a Ross. There are two versions of Ross bayonet. The older style fits the MkII (1905) version and has a dogleg shape to hilt & ring. The newer style fits the MkIII (1910) version and has a straight hilt and ring with a larger ring to fit the thicker barrel of the MkIII. These turn up infrequently, usually north of $100, but I just missed one that sold for $50.
