I have a No.2 Mk.4 that I would like to set up to shoot in local vintage .22 matches.

So far have got the trigger pull down to about 4 lbs.
It has a Parker Hale 5A receiver sight installed.
Butt stock bolt reset and tightened.

What about the front sight? Was there a globe sight put on the military target 303 of this vintage or just the blade ?

I see front sight blade kits for sale. Different heights and or different widths?

Thanks

The rifles were used with targets that were suitable for use with a post front sight. There were globe front sights retrofitted to some Lee-Enfields. Probably the easiest way would be to obtain a replacement front sight base, and recut the dovetail to accept a Lyman 17 or similar target sight.
There is a whole body of information on bedding .303 rifles for target shooting. I suspect that this would not be necessary with a No. 2 because most of the bedding was to reduce barrel vibration with .303s.
The front sights came in different heights for zeroing. With the 5a sight, that is irrelevant. You could certainly file a replacement sight thinner.
Trigger pulls can be lightened by stoning, etc. There is also an aftermarket trplacement trigger that would reduce the pull.

Billyboy - the OP is referring to a No. 2 Mk. IV .22" rifle.

Thanks for the reply. Will start looking for a front sight base.

Amazing how many think it is a .303. One reason that I want to use it in shoots.
