I've got a friend that has a No 4 Mk I T, but the windage and elevation adjustments on his No 32 Telesope are near siezed. Anyone have any idea where one might be able to get one of these gems properly repaired? I posted this in the optics forum as well, but thought it might get more response here....

I'm assuming from the description that you have a no32mk3 scope. They are the ones most prone to seize up. The problem is that the grease reacts with the seals & turns to gum.

DO NOT FORCE IT. Doing so will result in major damage.

Yup, like JP said.... :)

He will arrange to have it sent to Peter Laidler in England, who literally wrote the book on the No.4(T) No.32 Mk1, 2 and 3 scopes. You can also get Peter's books from him. Both of the ones below for the No.4(T) rifles are excellent.

BTW, is that the No.4(T) that was for sale on this board in the last two months?

stuck turrets

someone on one of the Lee Enfield forums suggested that gentle warming with a hair dryer may soften the goop.

But like everyone else says don't force it and don't let too much heat build up.

"An Armourers Perspective" Pg 67 Para 3

"Mk 2/1 and 3 telescopes left unused for a long time usually suffer from seized range and deflection drums. Great care must be taken to rotate these seized drums sympathetically otherwise a small screw between the drum and inner sleeve will start to rotate and cause irreparable damage."

Hope this helps, by the way I have the same problem with my (T).
