I had another Idea of what I can do with a Bubba No.4. This Idea is converting a receiver to a blank firing rifle. I know that blank guns are not classed as firearms and do not require a license or registration (as far as I know). Now of course I would not use a good or full rifle, but an old sporter that has had the barrel chopped with a rusted bore and the receiver has been drilled. I am sure I would have no issues finding one of those.
My Idea is to remove the barrel and have an aluminum one turned out. I would have it bored in a way that no commonly available ammunition will work in it. I would also have it chambered to accept a modified .303 British CASE only, not a loaded round. The reason for this is that I could turn out special "adapters" that are the general shape of the 303 brit case with a rounded neck (Similar to a blank shape) that will house a 38spl blank. This will allow the standard magazine to be used so it will still be a repeater, and the bolt will not need any modifications, and also so stripper clips can also be used to maintain the effect. Now their will be no way that this will be able to shoot any live ammunition. The bore will be a completely obscure size (most likely smaller then a .22), and the chamber will not be able to take any loaded .303 ammunition, or a commonly available case as they would have modified necks only the special adapters will chamber. Not to mention the aluminum barrel will probably go boom if any live ammo is used.
Now, Other then the price, their is the legal aspect. Are formally live firearms able to be converted to blank firing only status? Would this count as a dewatt? Or is it dewatt or bust?
Please note that this is an IDEA and I am simply asking about the viability of such an idea. I realize this will most likely not happen, I am just keeping my mind busy with possible projects. I am also going to assume that one can not convert a formally live firearm to blank status only as I am not familiar with this area of the firearms law.
