Here's something for all the Lee Enfield gurus to drool over. Many moons ago, a good buddy picked up a No.4 converted to 7.62 complete with the Stirling mag and proper extractor/ejector. Even at that time, it was a steal! I speculate that it was hand built for the Canadian Arsenals Limited rifle team as there are no military possession stamps on it. Well! He brought it over a while ago because he wanted some information on the rear sight. I thought I'd ask you guys because frankly, I'm stumped. All I can do is speculate because I've never seen or heard of anything like it. It's a cup rear sight adjustable for windage and elevation. I don't think it has an adjustable iris like the PH5c, but it's most uncommon. It's stamped C.A.L.1, so maybe it's a prototype. It could even be a "one-of" trial sight, who knows? Check out the pics, drool a little, and any of you guys who have some good input or knowledge about sight, please chime in (Smellie, take note!). He bought it here in Toronto at the long gone West Toronto Gun shop, and given the location, I think it was from an estate sale of someone who worked a CAL. Enjoy the pics, and I look forward to hearing from you.

At first I though it was just the specialized slide on one of the usual rear sight bases, but the base is graduated to 1,000 yards, not the 1,300 of the No4's base or the 800 of the No5 Jungle's base...

Nice one!

Drool.... I have a DCRA with front and rear sights that have interchangeable inserts, but it is calibrated for 1300 yds. The rifle came to me with a little tin that held the various inserts. In the 5 moves over the years, the little tin is "safely" stored somewhere.... If I ever find it, I'll post some pics.:)
