I have been cleaning up some rifles for an old friend whose husband left them to her after his passing several years ago. I found an interesting Longbranch no. 4 in the mix. Wood has been sportered, but the barrel and front sight aren't. Not many of the parts match (barrel and receiver seem to), including the bolt which has a no. 3 bolt head. The strange thing is that the receiver is marked Long Branch, but the barrel is marked Great Britain. There are no FTR marks that I have found anywhere on the rifle. Does this mean that the barrel may have been changed, or is this a common marking? In addition, there seems to be a gap along the rail where the bolt head attaches to the receiver. This is causing some binding when cycling the bolt. Doesn't seem normal, at least not compared to my Mk.III. Thanks for your help gents!
