Hey, I know there are some experts on this board as far as Lee Enfields are concerned. I want to swap the Bubba'd stock on a No 4 MK I for an original style stock set (probably from Marstar). I'm assuming it will be a relatively straight forward process. I'm also assuming the following are the only parts i'll need from marstar:

LE4-035 FORESTOCK
LE4-036 REAR HAND GUARD
LE4-037 FRONT HAND GUARD

marstar.ca/le4mk1s.htm

Any help would be appreciated! I am doing this for a Christmas present! Thought it would be well liked. Any online guides either?

You can get Brand new wood from Numrich a whole set costs about $80.00 CAD to your door as well as barrel bands

Don't forget the front and rear barrel bands, screws, and the sling swivel.
Also the front sight guard and screw. PLUS the retaining ring for the back of the rear handguard.

Does Marstar have any stocks/bands? Last time I asked them they didn't...

You also need the 3 bands, sling swivel and 2 screws. It's worth it, it does add value and cachet to a sporter.
Try to find the right parts for your model Lee Enfield. Maker/country/year all differ.

It looks like Numrich is my best bet for the parts. Thanks for the info Norseman.

The rear stock is fine on this Lee Enfield, so I will just be replacing the forestocks. Thanks for the heads up on all the screws etc. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the following parts from Numrich are all I need:

w w w.e-gunparts.com/productschem.asp?chrMasterModel=1990zNO%204%20MKI

36 - Handguard (Rear)
37 - Handguard (Front)
35 - Forestock
43 - Sling Swivel Screw (Front)
41 - Stock Band and Handguard Band (Middle)
45 - Stacking Swivel
44 - Stock Band (Front)
42 - Swing Swivel (Front)

Also, do I need a Ribbed or Plain Handguard?

Regular or used Birch Forestock?

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it!

PS I am a Mosin Nagant guy so this Lee Enfield stuff is new to me!

Also add part # 40 -stock band rear. This holds the rearhandguard to the receiver.
You'll need 2 screws for the front and middle band...(very important)
The stacking swivel is more of a No1 rifle part ,but it's cool .
If your rifle is a Mk1 ( English ) with a blonde color stock then it's likely Beechwood .
Birch usually for the Canadian or Savage No4 Mk1*
Ribbed or smooth rearhandguard are equally correct but IMHO the ribbed is pretty good .
Any time I've made an order to Numrich , I made the call , to be sure , if the parts are on hand .
If your paying by credit card there's no probs with the exchange but if it's by money order , be sure to ask the bank teller specifically for a moneyorder drawn on a U.S bank . Numrich won't take a Canadian bank moneyorder thats in US funds...dunno why , they just won't.
Other than that Numrich is easy to deal with and the order will take about 2 weeks to come in.

no problems there, Renada is great to deal with. :)

I'll have to place another order soon, I was just guessing what I'm short of in my parts bin.

I've got about 2 or 3 restoration projects on the go right now and about half a dozen No1 enfields awaiting parts. :(

Almost done a longbranch and the new parts that are commming will end up on a savage I think, or perhaps not, I'll see what I've got set aside when they come in and what sort of markings they have.

Sometimes its better to order the used parts and just see what shows up, then fit them to rifles based on manufacture, wood type and colour.

But if your only doing one  :)

well let me know how it turns out.

I would love to get a No1. My Dad has the No4 MKI* so this is why I am buying the parts for his Xmas Present! SHH!

I can't seem to find any good deals on Lee's anywhere. I'd love to get a 'fix me up' and work on restoring it. I'll have to hit up more gun auctions!

keep your eyes open, they come up here from time to time, but I'm a cheap bastard so unless its a great deal I won't bite. :D

I have a few now that I've restored and shoot, Savage rifles seem to be the most common, they should be put in beech, or birch.

Then the rest of the lot, Longbranch are nice but everyone wants to hold on to their little piece of Canada's war production, should be birch but beech and oak are also correct.

Maltby rifles are also fairly common and mostly with oak.

after that they get a little harder to find. Fazakerly and BSA.Co should also have oak.

Fazackerly did a lot of post war work and FTR's on all the different manufacturers rifles. I have 2 beautiful Savages that in in Beach that bopth went through FTR's in the early 50's, both converted to the Mk2 trigger (Mk1/3) and one was later converted to .308 part of the DCRA program

You really have to be carefull with enfields because it easily becomes an addiction, and you can never have enough of them.

But then I started a few years back seriously buying them up at auction for $25-$45 condition was not that important at those prices.

Now If you can find one for under $75 at auction your lucky, too many new collectors trying to catch up :p :D

Makes my pile of projects look a lot better now that I know they have doubbled or more in value, and I havn't done anything.

another problem out here is the dam registry, lots of farmers and whatnot have guns not registered and can't sell them leagally so they are just sitting on them. They won't hand them for nothing but don't want to tell too many people that they have them for fear that some do gooder will turn them in.

Keep your eyes open at gunshows too, sporter enfields are always present as well as parts and bits.

But research research research is important to make sure your not getting ripped off.

well thats enough of my ramblings  I feal like grampa simpson

well good luck with your projects
