No. 4 spike bayonets

Hey guys,

I have what I believe to be a No. 4 Mk. II bayonet








And a No. 4 Mk. II* Bayonet







I also have a 1944 LongBranch No. 4 Mk. I* Rifle.



I can get the No. 4 Mk. II bayonet onto the rifle. But the No. 4 Mk. II* Bayo will not fit. My understanding is that the Mk. II* was manufactured later in the war, wouldn't the later bayo fit a later rifle? Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong?

The only difference is the way the blade was formed and attached to the socket.

If it does not fit there is something wrong with the socket, possibly damaged or possibly too much much crud in the latch area.

How exactly is it not fitting? will is slide over the barrel? or is it just not latching?

Break out the file and ream out the bayonet.

It fits over the barrel, but it wont latch. I don't want to try and force it. It looks clear inside, is it possible the latch isn't going far enough back?

Quite possibly got a little too much crud in latching mechanism to function properly.
This guy's video explains the disassembly, will let you get it as clean as it's going to get.
