No.5 Shooting low

I'd wrather not file it down. The sight blades are the same height on all the sights, it's only the base that has higher or lower dimensions. I don't like the idea of having 1mm of front sight blade if I can avoid it. I want to do it properly and avoid horsing around filing down the sights.

Six inches low at 100 yards using a +.075 front sight blade (No5 rifle), replace with a +.045. This will adjust up 5 inches at 100 yards. Each 15 thou blade difference raises or lowers a No5 POI 2.5 inches at 100 yards.

Ok I have checked my site and it says 045 on it VI on the other side of the blade. How do i know if its + 0.045 or - 0.045
If each size increase lowers the impact by 1/2 ' at 25 yds does this translate to 2" at 100.
If so I think I need either a +0.045 or a +0.120

2 inches @ 100 yards per sight height is correct using surplus ammo or ammo loaded to surplus specs (174gr spitzer, 2440 fps at the muzzle).

If your sight says 045, it would be +.045, all negative blades were marked with a -.

Your rifle is shooting 10-12 inches high? I only know of sights ranging from -.045 to +.090, ten in all. Going from .045 to .090 will only lower your POI 10 inches.

I'm really mainly concerned with getting some more trigger time with my #5 and getting the windage adjusted. I figure once the windage is on even if I don't fiddle with the height of the front sight I can always crank up the elevation until it's in there.

True. I adjusted the windage on my No.5 and then tested it at 100yards with the ladder sight and at 25 yards with the battle sight. It was on with both with 170 grain softpoints and I left it at that.
