No bear defense threads in a long while with a good video

Yike! Well, fortunately it answers the inevitable question about bear defence.
The answer is "a .404. End of thread." :p

Saw a decent sized grizzly near our camp in Russia this summer. No charge, he just did his thing and I did mine. No harm, no foul.

I bet that guy who stopped the charge was glad he had a CRF rifle with iron sights for that shot. It never fails to amaze me how fast they can move.

You gotta wonder if that Sow had been having issues earlier with that big Boar they shot?
That outfitter stepped right in front of the client and did his job!!!! I sure hoped he got his tip... he sure deserves it!

The guide sure stepped up to the plate.

He was right in waving his arms and letting the bear hear his voice to let her know they were humans and not another bear or prey species. He also held his fire until the last possible moment and didn't waste ammo or risk jamming his rifle with a warning shot.

Armchair quarteback mode on. It would have been better if one of the backup guns, like the guy with the shotgun had stepped to the side and fired a warning shot in front of her but the whole thing happened so fast that really, no one can be faulted in any way for the way it went down.

Good shooting!!

I'm actually surprised that he let the bear get that close, 12 ft!!:runaway:

I bet he made the decision to shoot once the bear broke 25'-30', and by the time the shot went off the distance was halved. Tough high stress shot well made! It's sure nice to see it done right when it needs to be.

Watch the video!! and listen for the sound of the shot. Related to the Sows position. Then think - there's probably a pickup truck just off camera.
