No cost idiot scratch prevention !

If the slide stop is difficult to push straight down, a plastic or rubber hammer can be used to tap it in.

If you "need" to...... With some standard hard plastic packaging material, a sharpie, a hole punch, a pair of scissors & a few minutes of time you can make yourself a handy-dandy idiot scratch prevention tool:

Easily slips on & off for disassembly & reassembly. Prevents the underside of the rear of the slide stop from scoring the frame.

Too late for many of the 'oldies' but worthwhile if you've bought a spankin' new 1911

If they caused that scratch, you sure if they reassembled it properly or cleaned it right?

Saw a new one at Cabelas the other day, a new sig XO, with a idiot scratch. Was discounted 15%, I asked why the hell they let someone take it apart. If it ain't yours, don't disassemble it. They don't allow that anymore.
 
Snit happens, idiot scratch will happens again...

Half a mile after i just pick up my wife new Nissan Maxima, a stone shattered the windshield... JP.:mad:
 
look up the Logman modification. I did that to the slide stops on my STI Trojan & TargetMasters. Slide stop stays in the proper position as you position the slide, and it's easier to push in as well.
 
Hardly a new idea. Folks have been doing this for years with playing cards etc. There was even 'tools' marketed for such a reason but they didnt last long as I expected everybody realized it was such a simple thing to remedy. The other method was simple depressing the plunger with a hard plastic tip, like the point on a pen cap or similar and the slide lock drops straight in. In any case its always nice to find a way to save the embarassment and frustration.
 
Actually. I think the first thing you should do with a new 1911 is install the idiot scratch.....then you never have to obsess about it again!

Guns are meant to be used...they will acquire a certain patina through the process.
