No deer in wild turnips

I don't get it. I'll admit I don't have millions of deer around but have seen the odd track, and deer. Even some on camera. My acre of wild turnips stays largely untouched

They came in and played around it a wee bit when it was just about 3/4 grown, but now it's like I had a STAY OUT OF HERE Neon sign in the patch. Hope your right. Plowing,de-rocking,and discing, etc etc ain't fun if there's no results

I've never had turnips around, but it was my understanding it was more of a late season thing.

Turnips almost taste like a radish until you get a couple of good frosts, then they get really sweet and start popping out of the ground. Thats when the deer will start pounding them. I have planted turnips a couple of times in the past and that has been my experience anyhow!

I was just going to ask if you've gotten a serious frost yet? Roots don't get sweet until they get frozen a couple times, then they start changing the starches into sugars... that will get the deer really interested.

My friends food plot has been picked clean of everything but the beets are untouched... for now. We haven't had a serious frost yet.

Soybean is similar. Barely touch them until a frost or two then BAM!

Its the main reason those food plot mixes that you can buy have so many varieties on plants in them.... it stretches out the season and covers, bow, muzzle loader and rifle.

Little tender nibbly things for early season... good tasting greens when the crops start to change and the leaves are falling off the saplings.... then the hard root veggies that go sweet when it gets cold. Keeps them coming for months. You might even find them digging in the snow to find those turnips in December and January.
