No deer, only yotes.

Mon-Fri, Second week of deer hunting near Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia:
5 guys, ~8 Does seen, NOT ONE BUCK.
Good amount of deer sign it seemed
One coyote seen, took off before being shot.
No howls heard at night

Same area, first week, last year:
2 Bucks Shot(and recovered)
Probably same amount of does seen
Few coyotes seen, a few of em shot as well
Heard em howling a few times

Would of been nice to at least see a buck or two, or even shoot a yote.
BTW, non-resident hunting license prices are over 3x what a resident pays. Bunch of BS imo...

not many deer seen the last week ,one to be exact. I have a new tikka t3 lite in 30-06, shoots a 1/2" group with factory 165 winchesters. love the new gun, lots of coyotes here in manitoba too

I've seen doe's every evening up till tonight , not a single buck & tonight '' Last evening '' out comes this fella

Hi Ron, just found this thread :)
I too, with what little time I have to hunt, have an over abundance of yote work where I am. Without starting an ethics debate on baiting, I've never seen so much yote shzt in my life. It looks as if someone had a dog tied around my bait pile for a month with all the piles of yote shzt around it. The roads in and out of my area are full of piles too. With the limited time I have, I have yet to see a deer in there, but there are a few fresh piles of poo and tracks, so they come once in a while. I did see a yote opening evening but had no shot. He came in and stopped behind thick bush. The wind then started blowing from right behind me onto him. He disapeared.
Last weekend I had to go down to the girlfriends parents further down the valley. I decided to go check out an area down there that I had wanted to have a look at for a while in hopes that I might get lucky. Well, after squeezing between 2 other hunters in the area further up and down the road, 5 steps off the road into the woods yields a fresh buck scrape. Another 10 yards in there are a few xmas trees someone is tending and the buck has the bark cleaned off the trunk of a few of them. I then follow a road in further and notice there's a path really trodden down in the grass and think shzt, someone is hunting in here already. Well the path is full of deer shzt and tracks and I realize it's deer that have the path trodden that badly, not people. Long story short, there's more deer sign in 100 meters in here than 1 km where I've been hunting. So it's now 45 mins till dark so I decided to sit tight near a clear cut hoping to get a shot. I then hear at least 2, more likely 3 or 4 yotes start singing there heads off about 300 meters in the woods upwind from me. They go on for about 5 minutes then quit. End of story, I walk out without seeing a damned thing. It really sux only having about 6 hours per week to hunt. I can't wait to be able to take vacation during hunting season. I hope to get one soon, at this point I just want some tender vittles for the freezer. Even with a doe tag, I've had no luck this season :(
