CGN, I seek your knowledge to try to fix my 10/22.
I recently upgraded to a Boyd's Evolution stock, and Dlask 12.5 bull barrel w/linear comp, and grabbed a few HC3R mags and some Butler Creek Steel Lips. I took it to the range and had a lot of failure to feed issues. Rounds wouldn't seat all the way in the chamber, they'd get jammed in the receiver, not going into the barrel at all. Every round was getting damaged as the gun cycled. It was wearing off copper from the top of the round. This happened with the HC3R's and the Butler Creeks. Factory 10 rounder fed fine.
So I came home, tried to diagnose it. Polished the inside of the receiver, to help feeding. Got a fellow CGN'er to radius my bolt. Polished the feed lips on my mags. Reassemble everything, load a fresh mag in, first round jammed. And the second. And so on. With both HC3R and BC. I take all my upgrades off. Totally back to factory components. Feeds perfectly. Every round, with every mag. Tried manually cycling a few rounds, and none of that rubbing off of metal. Swap out the stock, leaving the factory barrel. First few rounds cycle ok, then jams in the HC3R. I try putting rearward and downward pressure on the mag, thinking the mag is not seating properly. That fixed it for the most part. 90-95% good cycling. Stopped putting pressure on it, and back to poor cycling.
Lastly, stick the Dlask barrel back on there. Every single round jams. Try applying the same pressure, it gets better, but still pretty poor.
So CGN, it would seem the Boyd's stock is somehow allowing the mags to seat improperly. And this problem is exacerbated by the barrel. What can I do to solve this? Would an aftermarket receiver and trigger group tighten up the tolerances for the magwell to the point it would cycle better? Do I simply give up and go back to stock? Different barrel? Different stock? I loved this gun when it was stock, and I want to love it with these new parts. Please assist.
