Wasn't there one of our resident barrel sellers trying to drum up interest for an order from a famous US barrel maker of high quality m14 bbls?

Satain, yeah I've been all over sites checking to see if anyone makes a heavy barrel with no threading ... havn't found anything yet ... :(

Grizzlypeg, if somebody was ... I'd be in ... :D

Adams lake barrels was trying to get a krieger order together last fall for short heavy pattern M14 pattern barrels. It's like a lot of things in any forum when people first talk about it you get 300 people say they would be all over one. Then it comes time to put up or shut up and he couldn't get the minimum 20 orders he needed to make it happen. The other thing you could do is have a cap made and leave it at that or have the thread chopped off and re crowned.

dogzilla, I've thougt about having it chopped and re-crowned ... but really was wondering if anyone actually could/would make a full length HEAVY barrel with no threads? I hear you on the I'm in bit ... but really I'd be in for a barrel as I describe ... ;)

p.s. and I still want to know if anyone has answers to my original questions ... Does anyone make a non flash-hider heavy barrel for the M14? Can this be requested?(if so which gunsmiths/barrel makers to ask) Would it help accuracy?

Again adams Lake barrels would be the ones to ask. It would actually be less work to do a barrel without threads. Most of the match AR15 barrels are un threaded.

Wouldn't a heavy barrel on a M14 require some major reworking?
I sold mine (stock M305) several years ago but I seem to think the gas block, piston, recoil spring, etc.. would need massive reconstruction/replacement to get a heavy barrel to work. That may be why it hasn't become popular.
Just my 2 cents, I could be wrong.

They come with an oversized op rod guide, everything else fits although the gas plug and flash hider thread is Imperial as opposed to metric. And you won't have the flash hider thread to worry about.

I get the whole cut it and re-crown it bit ... I'm asking if anyone ACTUALLY MAKES a non-threaded heavy barrel? I'm getting the impression and have searched forever that it's a "has to be make barrel" ... thank you,

Otokiak ... :(

I don't know of anybody, unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a high demand and the barrel itself is a lot more complicated from a machining standpoint.

Seriously there are no other barrel makers for the M14 other than Kreiger ... WTF??? :(

You caould try PM'ing different, he may know of other barrel makers, not so mainstream as krieger.
There several canadian barrel makers out there but who knows how much it would cost for them to tool up for these barrels.
I know of one outfit that would and could make m14 barrels from premium blanks, we have the drawings, BUT is there a market for say.... 100 barrels?
Because that would be the bare minimum run size to make it reasonably priced.
For a custom job one off, try jerry (mysticplayer), he can provide a premium blank , possibly with some of the profiling done.
Then a good machinist to do all the threads, gas port, torque shoulder and chamber end detail.... But it will cost huge
