WOW! I ask a simple question and come back to three pages of answers. I do appreciate the response. The reason I asked is that I have a very nice one in 7X57 which is all matching and original. It will really shoot! I have been looking for comparable prices here so I would have some idea what it's worth. Dave

$1200 if you sold it any time soon and will just go up any of the ones i seen like yours [all matching and original] were that amount.

Looks like Smellie got pwned on the 7.62 SAFN....

I think(?) those converted 7.62 ones were also select fire...?....making them prohibs in Canada even if they exist here

I have an ex belgian in 30 '06 and ex egyptian in 8mm.

I suspect my 8mm is a build of new parts by century.
Everything is incredibly new with no wear. Only they had a plastic buttplate instead of the metal. I saw a similar one about a month back on EE go for $800-900.

Still have them, but I didn't hesitate to sell off my six garands when prices became stupid.

This is my egyptian contract FN49 in 8mm I bought it on the EE for $425. Bore is very good but rifle show use, parts match. I need a bayo(egyptian marked but i can live with a non egyptian bayo too) and the cleaning kit. I have a gas wrench for already. The FN is really well made, fit is perfect and they are easy to work on. I hope to try it soon as the summer will be here.

I still think your detailed posts of Rifle Strippings should be made into Stickys... :)

You inspired me to get an SAFN49 gas system/screwdriver wrench combo. :D

The post have been included in the Stickys:) with the Rasheed,Garand,AG42/Hakim.

Well shiver me timbers!!! I hadn't noticed....

Awesome!

These will be an awesome help for the guys who want to learn how to take apart their rifles properly the first time!

I had to figure it out my self many moons ago when I first got my FN and Hakim... Almost smacked my eye, same with the first time I ever took apart an SKS gas system... looking straight at the forward section of the gas system with the top handguard removed and turning the release lever, then *WHACK*!! Ouch...

Newbies should REALLY wear eye protection when disassembling anything under spring tension... Or just try not to be as stupid and naive as me! ;)

Cheers!

I believe only the 30-06 came in select fire and didn't work all that good so the making of it never went any farther there were only a few make due to the mag and a few other reasons.

Argentine Contract: All 5,536 were SAFN (semi-automatic) configuration. On conversion to 7.62 NATO they were fitted with new barrels and modifications to the receiver/triggerguard to accept detachable mags.

There is no evidence to suggest any were converted to selective fire.

This is another odd FN49 myth.

The Belgian contract was for 87,143 rifles. Of that number, Belgium only acquired 4000 SAFN semiautomatic versions. The majority (83,143) were selective fire AFN configuration. In fact many of the original 4000 SAFNs were later converted to AFN selective fire as well.

Allen Lever was the importer of the mint condition egyptian 8mm's. He sold them for $49.95 each with sling.

...would have been better than any G.I.C, R.R.S.P or any other investment for him to have forgot them in his basement until now.

...I wonder how many of you are sitting on crates of stuff for the same investment reason. haha.

Just back from the Calgary gun show "Famous for high prices for 50 years" with this FN49 update.

More than half-a-dozen examples on sale there: 8mm, 7mm and 30-06.

Prices on the 8mm and 7mm examples were running about $750, with one that's been at several shows (not surprisingly) at $900. The 30-06s were, if memory serves $850 and $1200. None was pristine.
