No GOEX in 2023 ?

Swiss almost always does better than any Goex powder for me. The exception is Goex Old Eynesford. I have some rifles where it shoots as well or better than Swiss, but when I made the switch to Swiss a number of years ago, all of my scores went up right away.

I do have a CPA Stevens in 38-55 that has shot it's very best targets with plain Goex Fg, but that rifle seems to be an anomaly.

I bought a bunch of salt peter a couple years ago and said it was for meat preservation lol..

PS flash paper is fun haha or at least I've been told.

And I also picked up about 20 pounds of aluminum powder on ebay haven't seen it since on there.
 
Has anyone seen any Goex available in western Canada yet?

If not, can anyone point me at a retailer of Swiss BP in southern BC or Alberta?

LOL, there are numerous YouTube creators producing high quality home made BP and then testing it on camera etc. My favourite was the charcoal made from toilet paper. It produced very high velocities.

If making Black Powder is safe, how is it that Hodgdon had repeat explosions in their GOEX plant, convincing them to leave the business?
I love shooting black powder but I don't need to make it myself.

I worked in a large flour mill for three years. There are entire floors that are designed with blowout panels to prevent the buildup of pressure. Some industries involve hazards. That doesn't mean we shouldn't do those things.

Another thread also led me to Rusty Wood Trading in Mission which lists inventory of Shuetzen and Swiss (out of Goex).

I’ve seen some comments implying that Swiss is better (assuming more consistent?) than Goex. Can anyone speak to this? Is it worth considering a switch to Swiss from the Goex I’ve traditionally used. The Goex supply interruption has caused me some angst as I used up the last of my inventory which may be a secondary reason to change.
Consistency(accuracy) is most important factor to me but the shortage of the Goex I’ve used for 30 years already had me considering (just about forced until these replies) a switch.
I shoot a .50 cal side lock with conicals

Any first hand comparisons would be appreciated

Goex is back on some shelves in limited quantities in the US. I would suspect that it will be awhile before we see it here in Canada. Todate they have not made any Olde Eynsford powder as of yet. I have heard that they want to get Goex out the door in quantities first.

There is however lots of Swiss and Schuetzen powder available in Canada and the US as Schuetzen Powder Energetics were on the ball early on after the Goex fire and imported copious amounts of Swiss and Schuetzen powders to North America to fill the void.

As to the question of Swiss quality, it is top notch. The majority of BP cartridge shooters as well as long range muzzleloader and serious muzzleloaders use Swiss powders.

Muzzleloaders have been gravitating to Schuetzen powders due to its cost is less than Swiss and it is available. It will be interesting once Goex is back on the shelf regular if those that were using Schuetzen in the intern if they will go back to Goex.

Schuetzen may burn a little cleaner than Goex and POI should be the same or damm close.

I started to try Olde Eynsford Powders in BPCR with decent success with accuracy and performance close to that of Swiss at a lower cost.

But then then you should use the powder that your rifle or pistol likes the best.

I was curious so I went to Peavey Mart today and bought a pound of potassium nitrate stump remover with no issue. They keep it behind the counter and you have to over 18. I am well over 18, so it was like buying beer. They did not need to see my ID. This is in Alberta. Maybe other provinces are different.

I haven't had a chance to try yet but that's basically what I was expecting. Gotta LOVE Alberta. :) .
