No H4895 Varget substitute...success

checked velocity - saying 2200fps for 38gr varget 2.800 150gr speer... 22 inch franchi.
i wsa expecting a bit faster eh?
The book shows 2400fps but no mention of barrel length, which does matter.

If that is what you are targeting then you are in great shape, at that speed the 30-30 bullets would be good.

Agree, an I assume 24 inch, so subtract the -50-75fps or so an it would still be a 2300 load, being down in that 2200 fps range was a bit of a Hmm moment-
Out at 200 meters it would be iffy on the bigger deer species , I would like to have a bit hotter load for them, til then it is what it is I spose, should fit the bill nicely

Re JBM, it's normally pretty good

Judging from the comments on here the possibility for disaster is real
One think is clear your knowledge of how powder works in different cartridges is clear it’s not one size fits all and the comment about faster burning powder for softer recoil loads is scary
Any way now that I have annoyed many the short and skinny is there is no other powder that works the way h 4895 does it is great powder at all ends of the spectrum
For the correct answers call hogdon manufacturing and they will give you the correct info
Unlike internet comments

The problem is that H4895 is almost impossible to find.

I found Varget data from Hornady that gives velocity below that of many of the other manufacturers, but was tested, this was passed along and I believe this is what he is using as his basis, this is not just pulling a number out of his butt.

Nothing says that you cannot bring that velocity up, no need to run up to 28-2900fps, just slowly bump the velocity up until you find another accurate load and don't tell her, ha ha.

They say that most people struggle with 3006 recoil yet they go out and shoot 3in turkey and goose loads from a 12ga, which have more recoil than the 3006. I swear it is more perspective than anything else. Load up some lighter loads as you tested, then bump up slowly working on accuracy and velocity and see what she is comfortable with, I do not see any reason why a 150gr bullet pushed at 2500fps to be a problem for an adult, especially if you focus on fitment of the gun and scope as well as actual range time.
