I, like many of you visit CGN daily and through my travels often frequent the rimfire section. I have noticed over my time here that people love semi's, lever's and bolt's but there seems to be little affection for pumps. Is there an aversion to pumps (price, disassembly) or are the other models/types just more common, thus their popularity?

Just asking is all! :)

Lots of love here for my Winchester Model 62A with Marble's tang sight:

I think the main reason that you don't see much about pump .22s here is because they just aren't all that common anymore. Most gunmakers make semiautos instead because they are less expensive to manufacture.

I used to shoot my uncle's pump for gophers back on their farm when I was a kid. I don't recall what kind of rifle it was, but it was a lot of fun to shoot. I'd consider one today, but like someone has already said, there aren't many on the market anymore.

I have a Henry Pump .22 that I love. I think that this style of gun is super elegant. I cant seem to shoot worth SH*T anymore, but my friend borrowed it and hit a gopher at what must have been 200yds with it. I was impressed to say the least because I was about to tell him he was wasting ammo when he dropped it with the 2nd shot.

I got a few gophers from much less impressive distances with it and I love using it. Its fun to pump I guess. Its accurate, its light, its comfortable too. It also has a sort of feel to it. The magazine holds a fair ammount of ammo, but you dont feel like you are ready to blast away all day long with the thing. When you carry it, when you bring it up to aim at something, you can really feel like you are holding a trusty rifle. You can feel that you are going to hit what you are aiming at and you can trust that its never going to jam. This thing makes a 50 rd box of ammo last as long as a brick did in my Krinker Plinker, and I seem to hit more with this thing too. Maybe that is why I chose to sell my Krinker after last gopher season!

I dont even have a 10/22 any more and that is saying something because I have usually had at least two in my safe.

Oh no wait, there is one there, but its my wife's haha!

Good to see the love is there!:D

It's a shame that manufacturers/retailers/customers have steered away from them cause of the price.:(

Great fun to plink with!

I have a Henry Octagon that I just love. I think the reason their aren't many people with pump 22's is simply because their aren't that many to begin with. I can think of one manufacturer, Henry, who makes a pump action 22 nowadays, and that's it. Probably more, but I can't think of any. If others would start making pump action 22's, I'd bet they'd sell quickly. Their fun as hell, more fun than a semi in my opinion. Kids love them. I taught many a child on my Henry Octagon. Hell, find one with a detachable mag instead of tubular, and I'd be all over it like Oprah on a baked ham.

I've got a remington 572 and I love it, wouldn't trade it for nuttin' , ok maybe an SL8 but that's it. Seriously, this thing is deadly accurate, far easier to shoot than my 10/22 and I've had that for 35 years. As stated earlier , if I could find one that had detachable mags , I'd be on it like a fat kid at a candy shop with a fistful off loonies.....

There are so few on the E&E b/c people don't want to part with 'em...

Bought my 572 Fieldmaster when I was 16. Used it, still use it, would never get rid of it. Great gun.

It's more than doubled price since then....about 16 years ago.

The 22 pumps are very hard used and most are in real need of complete over haul so when you find a nice Winchester or Remington in decent condition there is nothing better for rolling cans! The FN/Browning pumps and Savage pumps are very hard to find in great condition also, and fellows just like having clips in there pockets for a quick reload, but I sure love my Win 62's and my FN, the nephews and brothers enjoy shooting them in the pits in the north woods,Dale in T-Bay

there doesn't happen to be a currently produced pump-.22, is there?

henry is making them, i think you can still buy a rossi, taurus bought them awhile ago. not sure what others are being made now.

And Remington's 572 that I bought just before Christmas and owned by several CGN'ers!:D It's kind of the reason I started this thread. Really nice rifle, full sized, the wood is nicer than the furniture in my dining room! lol

Pumps are great!

My Henry Octagonal barrel pump sports target irons, and shoots to match.

My Henry round barrel pump is my beater, go to, and general varmint gun. Very light, accurate, and quick to aim. Also much faster to cycle than a lever action! (I seem to remember a video somewhere of a guy emptying a Colt Thunderbolt in a matter of a few seconds...)

My Browning Trombone mostly sits in the safe, due to its age. However, since its a take-down it makes for a very small traveling package.

There is a really good looking Henry for sale right now at Williams if you are interested:

Browning trombone. I never noticed that it was a 22L only not LR when I was a kid but it has had thousands of LR rounds through it.

Hasn't been shot in quite some time (20 years maybe) Well used, broken stock held together with paracord and glue, a few screws missing...
