I want to have an AR variant. Where do I go to learn about A2, A4, this sight and that, HB, not HB, this trigger group and that upper, lower, end-arounder. I am new to black rifles and need to learn about the components, the function and the jargon. What do you say?
I will shoot from practical field positions and would like to use a peep style of sight?
I have no plans to compete in any official shoots. They have 'sniper' shoots at my local gun club. Any military style rifle is ok. Thanks.

I hear ya! I thought my 9mm AR would suffice, but now I'm piecing together a .223 version  .
As others have informed me, AR15.com has a lot of good info. You can also ask nicely around here.

Hurry up for God's sake man!!!
Where are you? We hold very informal Service Rifle matches at our range, you might find that competing will be far more fun and rewarding than just going and plinking!!

Instead of talking about A2 and A4, the simplest way to understand is that A2 generally refers to a receiver with iron site and elevation dial integrated, while A4 means a flattop receiver with slots for sight and optics attachment. You can attach an iron sight to a A4 receiver.

HB means - Heavy Barrel. Government barrel means military barrel, lighter than HB.

The standard trigger is single stage, breaks at about 6lb. there are match 2-stage triggers out there that breaks around 4.5lb +/-

Ok, ok. There is as much to this as any discipline of shooting. What is the best deal out there for an A4 style, multi-position stock, 16"-20" barrelled, I would want the better trigger, the quad rail style forearm, ummmm what am I missing. Oh yeah a rugged, kickass iron sight set up. Rear peep with a front post or do you guys like a front peep as well. Is it worth buying the seperate components and building your own up. I can't think that assembling one is rocket science......

Check out some of the sponsers for AR parts and complete rifles.

And I can assure you building one is not rocket science. I just finished putting mine together (yeah yeah guys, pics will be up soon) and if I can do it, it's more or less stupid proof. I went the seperate parts route just 'cause.
(Stag lower, A2 upper with 20" SGW 1/7 HB & a CAA buttstock.) Just got my recoil spring and buffer assy today as well as some mags.

Have a serious urge to lube her up and head to the range.

What is your investment on the build to date? The rifle is now complete and ready to fire? What can I expect for cost to "build" one from middle of the road parts. I don't want the 'cheapest' components, as 'cheap' is a lot different from low/reasonably priced. I don't do 'cheap'. Cheap stuff usually costs more $ in the end anyhow, and grief. There can be grief.

Then once youve swapped out most of the original parts for aftermarket ones, you end up with enough parts to build another AR15:D
