Haven't weighed him yet, but probably aroun 12 - 14 lbs, good eating for hunt camp in November

Hit him around 5 yards out, I think his head almost came off, and the shot rolled him a couple of times. This has been a strange season. Tons of Jakes about, very few big guys in my area, and they have been almost silent for the last week or so.

Congrats on your bird 7.62mm. It really has been a strange season here too. Lots of birds in my area, but very little gobbling. Birds just NOT responding to calls as usual.

Who cares about the trophy potential? Your not going to eat the spurs. Congrats on some fine eating. :)

This is very true.

I passed up some jakes early in the season, and I definately should NOT have. Finally got a bird 22 days into the season...but the bugs are getting relentless, and patience wearing very thin.

Congrats on your bird!!

Congrats. I only have time for one more trip if I'm lucky. Jake, Tom, anything with a beard is going down hard if it walks within range.

Damn, you guys are making me sick :)

We have been chasing a huge tom for the last week. Smart (lucky?) old bugger just won't step into range. We were setup 300 yards from his roost yesterday (thick swamp, can't get any closer), he was gobbling up a storm. We heard him fly down and had him in the opposite field 200 yards away for a while.

Maybe I have a "###" turkey call as only the hens come in LOL

A few days left, hopefully I can skip some work and get him in the freezer.

Might have to resort to Doug's tactics soon :D
